Hello All, So we just filed our FLR half way point visa renewal on the 5 year route for my wife. We used savings for the financial requirements as per the first application. I noticed they only asked for the last 6 months statement so we didn't need to keep the funds in there doing nothing the whole 2.5 years Anyway I was wondering at the end of the 5 years she will try to get a British passport I'm wonder do we need to keep the funds available once this visa is approved ? I assume there's no financial requirements at the end of the 5 years and if so just need 6 months statements again anyway right ?
No funds declaration required for British citizenship or passport. Once she has ILR that’s it she has the right to live in UK
Will need to prove the financial requirements for the ILR application and require the six months of statements in the period prior.
going back to my wifes ILR--i think we had to show savings equal to 1 x the annual £18,600 rather than 2.5 times. ( just used savings rather than ar5e around with proof of earnings /pension etc )
Agree. OP's question talked about trying to get British passport at 5 year point. Always worth clarifying that process is ILR at 5 year point which will require evidence of savings and take several months, once granted citizenship application which doesnt require proof of savings and takes another three to six months and can then apply after all that for british passport. My timelines may be slightly off as wife did EU settlement scheme route so dont have same experience. Easier route to ILR equivalent (took about six weeks for settled status) but no benefits on citizenship application.
that's why I dropped in the ILR bit to prompt the op to understand they need to get ILR first then I answered the question he posed
