Aside from the CFO, those of us lucky enough to have our loved ones already in the uk is there anything you did or wished you had done to prepare them for their new life?
Equally those of us waiting for approval of the visa is there anything you are doing in readiness?

    Hi John,
Make sure you have got a very warm duvet as she will probably always feel cold in the UK.

Just go with the flow John when she arrives, she will adapt to any minor little things, as Mike mentioned, they do feel the cold a little.

Filipinos are renowned for being able to adjust quickly in foreign countries.

When she arrives give her a few days to relax and acclimatise then take her to meet her extended family.

Find a shop that sell PH food that helps having a few food comforts in the cupboards. We have a local one that sells frozen fish etc my wife feels at home with some local food.

I was wondering whether that happened.. Would those of you with your Filipino partner here say that she or he always felt cold?

Ana claims she likes the cold, but those are just words, when she was here in 2010 for four months Jan- Apr, the heating was on all the time and she often would not go out because it was too cold same was true in 2007 when she was here both in England and Scotland, 2007 she was here Oct to Dec.

At night we had the heating on in the bedroom and at least a Tog 13 duvet.

13 Tog duvet with the heating on? I use a 9 Tog duvet and no heating in winter. Using a 4.5 Tog right now and it is too hot.

K and I are in the waiting phase.

Boy, have I ever got the right duvet!

When I was in Beijing in the mid 90's there was a little place in the old Beijing Department Store (that was when, under the Glories of the Planned Economy, the capital city of China had A SINGLE Department Store... and it was only four floors) where you could get a pure goose down duvet and pillows made to order. I did. Quality was fabulous. Pillows are in everyday use but the duvet is about Tog 30!

I sent K some DVDs - Four Weddings and a Funeral, Bridget Jones, Notting Hill, Love Actually, Pride and Prejudice (that may have been a mistake -I don't have Colin Firth's torso!) and the Kenneth Branagh Much Ado About Nothing. I think its safe to assume that all DVD players in the Philippines are multi region as almost everything there is pirated.

I also sent her a mobile phone with a Tesco SIM in it, and a credit card with her name onit, on my Barclaycard account. These are really for use on the journey.

Have located the nearest Philippines shop and (very important) the local Bisaya speaking community (not the same as my ex wife's Tagalog speaking community!) Now laying in supplies of the right tinned goods.

I know I will have to buy a television with a karaoke attachment.

Is there a way of getting Phils television through a satellite channel?

    What have I forgetten?

Oh, yes, bottle of Baileys - check, Bottle of Disaronno - check. Bottle of tequila - check. Bottle of Triple Sec - check... ;)

"AGW" as we say in the merchant shipping trade ("All Going Well..." - said when estimating how long a before a ship finishes loading or discharging her cargo) we hope to have a wedding later this year, so yes...

...a propos of which, I have suggested that she considers buying a wedding dress, or having one made, and bringing it with her.

K has always wanted to get married in a white T shirt, white Daisy Dukes and white socks and trainers, but I have pointed out that, whilst our Rector would make no objection, our parish church gets a bit nippy in December!

That's good news. I'm always joking with @BlueberryCheeseCake that she will think the world has ended when the temperature drops below 10 degrees C. :)

@Methersgate - you've got a very comprehensive checklist going on there! I had to guess at what daisy dukes were - I guessed it was tight shorts named after Daisy in the TV show - which after all was probably the main reason why 95% of viewers tuned in.. :)
