It gives you access to your eBay account, yes. But it is a dedicated app that does not access your account via an HTML website. It is probably more secure than accessing your account via a browser, assuming you don't stay logged in with your phone unlocked!
In effect to the end user yes John but although them two icons sat on the screen look the same, they are somewhat different.
It is of course possible to have both a link to the website and the app installed at the same time on any mobile device and looking very similar to each other.
I have a question Jim, when I was in S Ireland last week my pop up blocker worked fine and I had no adverts on BF, I popped up to NI for a couple of days and I couldn't get rid of the adverts, my blocker logo (a blue circle with a cross through it) disappeared from the bar next to the web address and I couldn't get it back. Went back down south and the adverts went again, is it something to do with the hotels wifi access or something like that? I'm in Belgium now and everything is champion, no adverts.
It is possible that some software on the local network is acting as a proxy and wrapping sites in their own advertising, I'm not primarily a web developer although I do understand the web fairly well, it would need an HTML expert to talk about the limits of possibility on any device accessing the web, but I suspect you are on the right track. I don't use an ad blocker as most places I visit don't have obtrusive ads
definitely--right now--on my mobile---on the britfill page--under--home-forums----is a row of icons---one is an envelope--with a white 1 in a red circle. under that row--it says-british filipino in black letters. just wish i knew how to capture it and post on here
As I do lots of indoor events, I rely on free WI-FI a lot to keep data costs down, and invariably one has to register to be able to take advantage of the service. Upon registration one leaves himself/herself open to receiving lots of advertising, which to the best of my knowledge is not allowed in a few European countries. Here it can get as bad as having the email address swamped with junk, daily, and the mobile device having pop-up banners at the bottom of the screen, and sometimes clumsy oversize fingers in a hurry just touch it by mistake and bingo, one finds that it is definitively not the page one wanted... Hi bigmac, try logging out on your phone close the browser and then login again, you might have to do a page refresh to clear the cache but the ads should be gone now with a bit of luck.
Forcing the use of a proxy for injection of adverts on HTTP websites is bad enough, but Lenovo injected adverts into SSL connections as well by selling some of their computers with Komodia SSL-busting certificates; the supposed security given by browsing to an HTTPS website was totally destroyed. In other words it would have been possible for Lenovo to monitor all your on-line activity and steal your log-in credentials for any HTTPS website, including your bank. Even worse, the password on that SSL certificate was simply the name of the SSL certificate issuer: komodia. This enabled the creation of fake copies of websites (such as your bank) to be created by anyone, that would be accepted by the Lenovo computer as the real bank website.
The ads have gone for me, only social widgets for Google, Facebook and Twitter widgets are being sent now (but I block them) And there is still Google analytics (which I also block) But how will the site pay for itself without adverts?
Capturing the page image is very dependent on the phone. On my Moto G 2013 with Android Lollipop I have to press and hold down the power key and volume down key for a few seconds. Other Android phone have different methods or, on older Android versions, not even possible without rooting your phone. Just search online with your make and model on Google, adding the words "screen grab" to the search.
We will worry about that later, it's not hugely expensive to run these days, Sean was just being sensible regards the ads, he was an ordinary bloke who did a great job building this place but he did not have deep pockets and who could have expected him to have deep pockets, he did a great job, if he could have done without ads I am sure he would have.
i did discuss this with Sean when i first joined--offered to contribute--as indeed i had on the dark side---but he declined--saying it wasnt needed.
