A Filipino woman faced a United Arab Emirates (UAE) Court for failing to present a marriage contract after giving birth in UAE in May, Gulf News said.

The Filipino woman, however, insisted that she and her husband got married in the Philippines five years ago, the report said.

"My husband is the father of my child, and I never had an illicit affair with anyone," Gulf News quoted her as saying.

The Filipina reportedly arrived in UAE in 2009 to work for a family in Abu Dhabi. However, she absconded in May last year when her employer held her salary for three months.

After her employer had her residency visa cancelled, she went to Dubai and stayed in an apartment with her husband, who had been residing in UAE for three years.

When the husband left UAE, the Filipina, who was already pregnant, moved in with a friend of hers, the report said.

On May this year, she gave birth to a boy.

Gulf News said the Filipina remains in detention with her baby and her case was adjourned to give her time to get a copy of her marriage contract from the Philippines

Very sad, and such a shame this backward state is imposing such a harsh regime on this young woman. They couldn't even deport her, that would be too lenient..

Hope I live to see the day the oil dries up and the Arabs go east in search of servicing jobs!

Pretty sad indeed, my Partner worked 6 years in Dubai and knew that all along. Its part of the Seminar conducted and Info letters one gets when he works abroad or is abroad. The consent is : DON'T GET PREGNANT !
Worse, THEY DO keep the Child !!! Happened all before, but the Philippine Government (in the hindsight of the Jobs) is "shy" to go full protest against it.

Now there isn't much one can do about it, UAE is a souvereign nation and when othey ask you to stand on your head and sign the National Anthem backwards, one has to comply.

However, there are numerous facebook and other social media "protest" groups, which one could join and file protest. They are not too unsucessful, even Iran has already "bended" a little in some issues due to the followed pressure by UN,US,EU and other "influential" nations.
the power of Internet...more and more to be seen.
