Well .... erm.... NO! That is a rather clumsy revenge attempt by Trillanes who was snubbed by Duterte last year. He approached Duterte seeking to become his running-mate, believing that his rather ill-conceived attempts** to highlight institutional corruption during the Arroyo to stamp-out corruption during Arroyo's two-term presidency would stand him in good stead with the Mayor. But Duterte, who hadn't yet declared his presidency, had already received an approach from an altogether more credible vice presidential candidate (Alan Cayetano) told him "no".

Duterte was also approached by Bong-Bong Marcos who pre-empted our Mayor by having thousands of advertising tarpaulins depicting Marcos as Dutere's running-mate. He too got the bum's rush.

In short, Trillanes has an axe to grind.

**Trillanes, a former naval officer, was the ring-leader of the Oakwood Mutiny (Makati) in July 2003 and the Manila Peninsula Hotel (Makati) siege in November 2007. Both were attempts to bring about an end to the corruption of the Arroyo administration.

Duterte just admitted to owning that account - a day after his chief spokesman denied it.

Here is some more substantial reading for Mark and for anyone else who thinks that Duterte should be President.

Please make a note of the publishers... The Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines.

1,424 killings in seven years, from 2008 to 2015. Of those, 132 were children.

Philippine ‘Dirty Harry’ Takes Lead in Presidential Polls
Rodrigo Duterte, who promises a ‘bloody war’ on crime, is 12 points up with two weeks to go

MANILA—A trash-talking mayor who promises a “bloody war” on crime and triggered outrage with a casual joke about rape has taken a strong lead in Philippines presidential polls two weeks before the election.

Rodrigo Duterte, whose admirers liken him to Hollywood’s free-shooting Dirty Harry, drew enthusiastic applause Wednesday from the country’s top business group with a stump speech focused on restoring law and order by pursuing criminals relentlessly.

“I will use the military and the police to go out and arrest them, hunt for them,” Mr. Duterte told the Makati Business Club, calling his critics “bleeding hearts.”

The contest to succeed President Benigno Aquino III in the May 9 election had been close-fought, but Mr. Duterte has surged ahead of the other three candidates. A Pulse Asia survey released Tuesday showed him at 35%, well ahead of the 23% for closest rival Grace Poe, who has called Mr. Duterte’s anticrime policy “a threat to our freedom and democracy.”

The surge coincides with a string of verbal gaffes, in particular a joke about the 1989 rape and murder of an Australian woman in his city of Davao. Mr. Duterte was widely attacked on social media, condemned by Sen. Poe and criticized by the Australian and U.S. ambassadors. He responded by threatening to sever diplomatic ties with both countries unless the ambassadors “shut their mouths.”

You may have seen the photo of Duterte sitting beside Arroyo at her birthday party on April 5th which Duterte's lawyer inadvertently posted on Twitter with. "Public" setting. GMA is without her neck brace.

This may make you suspect, as it does me, that there is some substance in the rumours of a deal between the two of them in February - after which Duterte's campaign moved up a couple of gears...
