Options for Philippine TV channels in UK

Hi - planning to bring fiancé & son to UK in 2017 on fiancé visa (marriage within 6 months) and thinking about ways to make Kris and Ron feel a little less homesick.

I was wondering what options there are to access TV channels from the Philippines.

My current setup is, essentially, Freeview through a Sky digibox ( I cancelled Sky a couple of years ago as I mainly watch BBC 2 & Four). I also still have an aerial in the attic ( co-ax cable to lounge and bedrooms) which I suspect could deliver digital services.

I don't have a smart TV but thinking about getting one soon. I do have a Roku stick to watch YouTube / iPlayer etc on large TV. I can access Netflix if I take out subscription.

Advice on options / cost gratefully received.

    Cheers

    Gerry

I'd wait till you get them over if I was you, the channels you already have may keep them happy thus saving you a bob or two.

If she likes a bit of drama then I'm sure Emmerdale and Coronation street will keep her happy :)

Yes - all the **** I hate! I'm a documentary / history / nature / current affairs kinda guy. My ex wife was a soap addict - irreconcilable TV differences! ☺

The reason I mentioned Emmerdale and Coronation street is because I would prefer to come home to my wife watching those programmes as opposed to Filipino soaps where I couldn't even understand what they were on about.

Let her settle into British TV, the Freeview channels have it all really, she's bound to find some of the TV to her liking.

They can watch live Pinoy TV shows via the internet. I know UK has a fast connection. ;)

I don't really watch tv here in Pinas (only watch during Showtime and Big Brother) but when I was in the UK the TV has been a great help in getting me through boredom. I love their game shows (Pointless and The Chase). I love Bradley Walsh he's very clever. Watching TV in the UK has also helped me understand a bit about the country and stay updated with current events.

I always put subtitle on which my partner hates coz sometimes I don't understand. It's a bit awkward when the host is joking and my partner is already laughing and I'm just sat in the chair like :eek:. I dont know when I'm supposed to laugh if there's no subtitle :D

Get TFC free for 7 days then 8.25 GBP per month after.

But he'll get used to it. He has you and his mum for support.

I just browse youtube videos if I'm homesick or call my parent and sibling.

That or go to Earl's Court. Bam there's your Pinoy community.

Home is where the heart is.

Don't entirely agree, looking at it from the reverse angle, when I (Brit) settle in Philippines next year, I will be very upset if I can't watch my sport and English language TV. Cant imagine having to sit and watch only local channels. Isn't it the same for Gerry's fiancé and son? Long way from home, no close family support or friends and only foreign (as in English) TV to watch. I say go on, splash out, get them whatever TV channels they want to watch.

I think in the UK with Freeview, Sky and Freesat we have everything covered whereas in the Philippines there are fewer options unless you want to fork out some cash.

So it's safe to say not all British people are a football fan. I thought it's only my boyfriend. Now I know he's still pure British :D

Every guy in the UK, no matter the nationality/heritage is expected to have a favourite team.

Before I came here, I wasn't really a football fan but because I become OP when the talk involves football (and it happens a lot), I was pushed to like football.

I'm now a Chelsea fan. Thank peer pressure for that. Hahaha...

Yeah, Diego Costa with those hat-tricks. 9-game winning streak.

I like the Spurs but I'm more of a Lakers fan.
