Our wedding rings were bought in Ongpin, Binondo, Chinatown. Two tone gold matching wedding bands for 12000 pesos the pair. A bargain. However my wife's finger has grown larger since she arrived here and the ring no longer fits. So we arranged to have it enlarged. Today we found out from our local jewellers that the rings were fake - stainless steel and some other coating. So... its a trip to the jewellers tomorrow to order a new pair of wedding rings at UK prices with a UK hallmark.
Well, will have to splash out some real money to get something decent. My ring is getting a bit tight too. So it will need to be a pair of rings again. Probably over a grand to £1500 My wife blames our driver. He recommended Ongpin.

For me, so what. If you were happy with them before then why not be happy with them now. They are the original rings so they mean more as they are the ones used at the ceremony. Luz actually wears my great grandmother's ring, which my mum gave to her. She had to ave it made smaller. When you compare it to mine it is quite obviously higher quality!!

Not exactly easy to test but real gold is dense, you can test jewellery if you have some way to measure the volume and a means to weigh the item, you can then work out from standard density tables if the weight matches the volume. Ongpin is ok, mostly, I know this only because she got back the same value when she pawned our stuff as I had spent in the first place. Sorry to hear this happened John but I tend to agree with Graham the original rings still have some sentimental value.
Yes. We didnt do our homework properly on the rings. No harm done on this. Wife is peeved but she laughed when I told her the bad news, as if it didnt surprise her. We are off today for some proper ones.
Ongpin was once a place where you can get good and of quality jewelry stuff but that was ages ago when it was yet the best shopping center in Manila.I'm sorry to hear that you were faked Just a reminder, better to shop at popular jewelry stores than sorry.We got ours at Robinson's Galeria 18 karat whitegold, and it is really 18 karat when i got them checked .
I would go further by advising foreigners against any purchase of precious metals or gemstones anywhere in the Philippines. Both can be bought more safely, cheaper and with a greater degree of honesty in Hong Kong. Nathan Road (Victoria, near the Peninsular Hotel and Star Ferry) is teeming with jewellery stores.
I would buy one in the UK if I was you, as the posts above state, it is easier to get ripped off in the Phils than the UK.
Yep, even off the internet if you so wish. They will post ring sizers for free. I posted a ring sizer to my wife when I posted the necessary docs for our just so I could get the right size
