"A NORTH EAST man was reunited with his American sweetheart this weekend after facing months of immigration problems.

Tom Wade, from Thorpe Thewles, near Stockton, married his American wife Vanessa after meeting her while working in South Africa. The couple, who had hoped to settle down together in the area and run the village’s Vane Arms pub, were thwarted when Border Agency officials denied Mrs Wade a visa in November.

Mrs Wade, 31, said: “It was shocking. I know there have been problems caused in the EU with immigration but it seemed like such an extreme measure to take with a couple that were married, lived together and were exceptionally solid and really happy.

“You look at the USA and England as two countries with similar values which have a good relationship and we didn’t think we would have an issue at all. It was shocking.”

The couple were finally reunited after winning their appeal against the Border Agency’s earlier decision.

    Nice to know :)

And I'm sure I'll have a similar reunion at Manchester airport soon.

...and what was that all about? The newspaper did not say anything about the grounds of the decision or its reversal on appeal.

Frankly, in the light of Kuya's experiences, I am getting glum about my own prospects.

Yes, no meat on the bones. But a kind of happy ending to a spousal route, immigration related horror story.

I'm going to make an educated guess, since they are running a pub, that it was the income requirement.
