The merging of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) has finally been completed, a week before motorists go on a Holy Week exodus.

The traffic volume in NLEX and SCTEX usually increases by 15 percent during the Holy Week. But with the road integration, motorists can expect faster and more convenient travel times.

Senate President Franklin Drilon, who filed a Senate resolution to fix inefficiencies in expressways, led the inauguration ceremony on Friday (March 18).

In 2014, Drilon spent 11 hours on the road on his way to Baguio City. He lamented traffic congestion on expressways and tollgates during the holiday season.

Along with the road merging, toll collection stops will also be reduced. The Dau and Mabalacat toll plazas will serve as temporary pass-through lanes, but they will be dismantled by April.

According to the Manila North Tollways Corporation (MNTC), this will save motorists 40 minutes of travel time

The MNTC will be implementing its annual “Safe Trip Mo, Sagot Ko Motorists’ Assistance Program,” in which they deploy additional personnel in expressways and provide medical assistance to motorists when needed.

They are good roads but its amazing how many don't use them due to the higher tariffs. I had to argue with our tame taxi driver to use them instead of taking the old road thats always chocker

I was on them once or twice last month.

Any improvements are always welcome. A shame about the hold-ups on EDSA, which wipe out the small gains elsewhere, when travelling between the capital and anywhere on the above-named roads.

Perhaps Mr.Drilon should have been sat on there for a few hours too.
