Stolen off the Times today Thousands of non-EU migrants will have to produce criminal record certificates before they are allowed to work in the UK under rules coming into force next month. Nurses, teachers and care workers are among those who will have to hand over a written document from their home country as part of efforts to toughen up immigration. The new rule will affect those applying to work with children and vulnerable adults under a skilled visa route for workers from outside Europe. It will also apply to their adult dependants. At present skilled migrants declare that they do not have a criminal record when seeking a visa but from next month they will be expected to provide an overseas criminal record certificate as part of their application. The Home Office said that failure to provide the relevant documents without an adequate explanation would result in a visa application being refused, even when all other criteria were met.
For our beloved Filipinos that will just mean NBI clearance, I think a few here on the forum submitted it for their settlement visa applications although it is not a requirement. I know the missus had to have NBI clearance for when she worked in the UAE, I'm guessing it is a standard requirement for a lot of countries. I'm surprised the UK Government has not already implemented this, makes sense to know if anyone entering the UK for a prolonged period for example a working visa has a criminal record.
I suspect that such documents will have almost no real value. I am not at all opposed to them - most countries - certainly including the Philippines - already require such documents. But coming from the "University of Recto"?... talaga??
They'll have value for sure - nurses, care workers and teachers won't be able to get a work visa without one. the veracity of such a document is, however, distinctly questionable.
I'm extremely surprised the UK Government doesn't already have something in place. especially for NHS workers, surely they must have had some sort of background checks before being allowed to treat members of the public?
Im already laughing but im going to bring up commong question by a lot of newbies 'does it require red ribbon?'
It WAS the CRB check... and certificate. I had one, until I retired (because I needed to spend time in people's homes during the course of my work).
Hi I am a Filipina wife of a UK citizen. I submitted my settlement (spouse) visa application in VFS global Manila last month.. 7th Apr to be exact. I haven't included my criminal record form on the documents that I submitted but I was cleared when I left Saudi 9 months ago. I have the proof with me but like what I've said I didn't include it in the application. All the supporting documents and even the financial requirement of my husband were completed. I worked as a nurse in Saudi Arabia for almost 4 years and now I'm getting worried because of it. I will not come to the UK to work as a nurse but to join my husband. I know you are not an immigration officer but I'm curious if this will affect the decision of my application. Thank you so much for your time.
Hahaha... wasn't it only a couple of years ago that they started insisting on the NHS workers being able to speak English properly?
