He turned up at the Silver Thread a couple of times, I think I posted this before but I remember one night he appeared absolutely smashed but then went on to do a floor spot that was utterly riveting, a very troubled soul but incredible musician.

    ok thx.
They are a bit too heavy for me.
I like some loud rock music though, ZZ Top for example.

Yes Jim. Did you see the documentary about him not long before he died?
It was when he had had his foot amputated, if I remember correctly. He was openly smoking dope and he couldn't give a damn who saw it.
He was great live as you said. I saw him in Liverpool University in the early 70s. He was such a great person to see live, it was as though he was chatting in his own house. I don't know if he was smashed but he didn't slur his words and his music with Danny Thompson and a drummer was amazing. He was very good using the foot pedals to create good effects, it sounded like many more people were on the stage. I will remember him fondly. Another great Scot.

Yeah I did see that documentary but I think I might have seen it a bit later after he died.

Oddly enough with that Glaswegian accent you would be convinced he was a Scot but he wasn't, he was born in Surrey his dad was Scottish and he grew up in both England and Scotland, he could turn the accent on and off :) when he wanted.

He was great to see live though, that floor spot he did at Paisley folk club he ended up borrowing my mates guitar and before that in the 70's I had seen him live at Strathclyde Uni if I recall correctly, his use of flangers and delay loops was quite incredible but his acoustic playing was truly impressive as well.
