100 sinkholes found in Bohol after quake

"Close to 100 sinkholes have been discovered in nine towns and one city in Bohol after the 7.2-magnitude earthquake that shook the province on Oct. 15.
Environment officials said not all of the sinkholes posed dangers to the public as long as no houses were built over them.
In Poblacion Uno village in the capital Tagbilaran City, however, 200 families were asked to leave their homes, as the structures were built on the roof of a sinkhole.
A sinkhole is a vacuum or cavern beneath the ground or topsoil waiting for an occurrence (earthquake or heavy rain) to rupture.
Bohol Gov. Edgar Chatto said a team from the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) was assessing the sinkholes to determine which ones posed a threat to the public.
The eight-member team is using a ground-penetrating radar to map the island for sinkholes.
Chatto said the mapping would be completed by the first quarter of 2014 and then the team would decide whether there was need for engineering intervention.

Very strange.. I was up from dawn until midnight on Friday here on Bohol and didn't feel a thing..
not felt anything for a couple of weeks now.
    Hmmm.
Another surprising thing..Lots of tourists back being lazy on Alona beach drinking cocktails and snorkeling etc..
I didnt think that would be the case for at least 6 months or so.

There may be a reason for that - there wasn't a tremor in reality but .... the scent of overseas donor money is being sniffed!

Well that is refreshing news! Will be staying at Alona Beach and hoping that it would be safe for us especially when we go around the city. Been there before and love Bohol, shame about all the destruction :(

Well, there's extra beach to party on now. An extra 50 metres in places.

Alona Beach isn't really a party place beach hahaha :) It's rather peaceful in my opinion

Whereas is Talisay? If there is a party place in Bohol, we better check out the scene!

Not much of a beach party, if one has to keep off the oil spill from the sunken ferry and various tons of dumped garbage...

Even Hadsan Beach in Mactan has been affected...:erm:

There was a bar called "Oops" run by an eccentric Englishman and his boy/girlfriend for years.. Unfortunately the boy/girlfriend died prematurely with an unexpected heart attack and the English fellow went into mourning and closed it.. Im pretty sure that its still shut.. Tut tut!
There is always a party up there somewhere and some really good ones on new years eve.. Haven't missed one of those in 6 years!!
    Cheers!

How far is Talisay beach from Alona beach and how do we get there? The times I was in Alona beach, there is one bar there where all the merriment in happening, forgot the name but it was on the left side of the beach

Quite a long way from Alona.. Its nearer Cebu!

Probably oops on the "left".. The right side of the beach is the sea but it would depend on which way you were walking...
    Oh....I give up!!
