I still haven't a clue as to the thinking behind it, to be honest. Maybe I'm from a different planet. I will try to live with it.
It was me and as stated by Dave I misread it. So, sadly nothing to do with power-tripping moderators I would reinstate the original text but that doesn't seem necessary now. EDIT: I see Jim hasn't responded to the comment of post #19 so I will. The bit you see:- Jim contributes to this forum, not just as an Admin, yes he is an an admin and will stay admin as long as he see's fit but also by providing logical and balanced viewpoints with empathy and thought behind them. The bit you don't see:- Contributes both on a technical level and also financially. In fact and I hope you don't mind Jim, but the biggest financial contributor to this site. So please...
i offered to contribute when i first joined, but was told it is not needed. i am still willing to do so. i used to donate on the dark side before i was booted out.
You did Bigmac, I remember you asking and it was appreciated. For me personally, your assistance and help to others is invaluable to this site so that is contribution enough. Again, thank you.
Back on topic for goodness sake!! ‘Our crowning glory’: City in Australia plans grand reception for Miss Universe Catriona Gray A city in Queensland, Australia is planning to welcome Catriona Gray with a grand reception, should the newly crowned Miss Universe visit there during her reign. The Philippine representative, 24, was born to an Australian father, Ian Gray, and a Filipino mother, Normita Magnayon, in the coastal city of Cairns in Far North Queensland. A report published Tuesday on The Cairns Post online, citing mayor Bob Manning, said the city council holds a mayoral reception for “local people who have achieved world championship status.” “We would look at holding a similar event for Catriona if we were made aware of an impending visit to Cairns,” the report quoted Manning as saying. https://news.abs-cbn.com/life/12/19...POXAKvb9V_nx_ZUncR_ikqQeuogrE_6VuFgGyqCtvH6u8
She is Filipino under Philippine nationality law, had she been British and born in her fathers home town of Fraserburgh maybe we would be celebrating too, hell we might as well as the only reason she would not have a claim for British citizenship is that she was born before July 2006 to a foreign mother. You seem to be arguing for a Jus soli interpretation of her nationality.
Not arguing anything..Just posting the news and stories of interest. I think she chose to represent Miss R.P because it`s still a big event here..The attention and fame a winner will receive here is far greater than in the west where these pageants are frowned upon these days.
Thank you for confirming that, Paul, however why Jim could not do so himself is a tad unnecessary. That said and in my view, Jim is no different to you or the other staff members here and therefore should be identified as such.
Live and let live; be happy and not call into question anyone's motives. Jus Sanguinis? Jus Solis? Ridiculous comments! (None of the above is aimed at you, Graham, but your quoted post prompted me to express my observations )
The very first reply in the thread appears to denigrate this girl's achievement and the pride taken in her win by the Filipino people, I tried to point out that she had every right to the correct title, Boots says that wasn't his intent to call that into question so fair enough.
I never asked to be made an admin, Sean insisted and just went ahead and made me one anyway, I tried to do the job as best I could. Two years ago I left the site for 6 months and changed nothing in my profile the reasons had nothing to do with the site, 16 months ago I banned myself, again for reasons that had nothing to do with the site, no announcements were made on that occasion but for the first and only time I exercised my choice to switch off the label, little if anything was said by me the first time I left and my profile always read 'Not where I want to be' I changed that when I banned myself. I don't like being the boss of anyone or anything except myself, I was an employer once and didn't like that either. And I'm not going to be ordered to switch on a badge by anyone.
Not my interpretation although Fred does make rather glib posts on occasion. In this case he's absolutely correct in congratulating Miss Australia as Catriona Gray was born in Australia of a British-born father who had acquired Australian citizenship.
Funny I thought Miss (Universe) Australia was this young lady Francesca Hung an Irish Australian Chinese girl who ended the wider competition nearer the bottom end of the top twenty. Or maybe she was Miss China
Believe me, Jim, I welcome the fact you're a moderator: I have cause to as we both know and appreciate. I just feel you could be more open about it, is all.
