This year's Miss World contest has just finished in Bali and Megan Young, the reigning Miss Philippines, has been crowned Miss World.

    The finalists in order are:

    1. Philippines
    2. France
    3. Ghana
    4. Brazil
    5. Spain

    And here is Megan:

Ah typical, she is Tisay Fil-am, she is certainly pretty and that is an excellent photograph but for me nothing special the world is full of women that look like her, but then maybe I am wrong to judge Miss World by that criterion?

However I would say that I am not sure what the contest is trying to promote these days, is it beauty is it personality, is it humanitarian concern, I just don't know?

Pretty sure it is still trying to promote T&A... Or is that just me being a cynic?

The competition has changed quite dramatically from what it was when the BBC broadcast it each year from Earls Court. There was six mini-competitions one of which, Miss Top Model, Megan Young also won thereby securing her place in the final. The competitions were: Top Model, Beach Fashion, Sports and Fitness, Beauty with a Purpose, Talent Competition and the World Fashion Designer Award.

Miss England, Kirsty Heslewood, came 7th and was beaten in the final by Miss Gibraltar who got the Peoples' Champion award and came 6th overall.

The Makati stock market will be up by a couple of percentage points on Monday morning and the the whole nation will be feeling good about things for a week.

This is the Philippines' equivalent of England winning the Ashes, or possibly the World Cup Final

Exactly. This is a Good News story and will lift the national heart somewhat after the recent succession of Bad News stories such as the Cebu Ferry accident, the Pork Barrel scam and the Luzon floods.

My wife is pretty chuffed at the outcome and a bit sneering about the final position of Miss UK. :D
