Heh. Forgive me for saying this, but your mate Nige would have a lot to say about that.

He banged on about the Belgians when he was here the other month. :D

    What was he moaning about?

He seems to view the Belgians with great disdain.

    Van Rompuy is Belgian.

He was asked to apologise by the EU commision for being derogatory about the Belgians. It was a funny story.

I do as well now if they wont put me on their insurance :)

Seriously, there must be a very good reason why they will not put me on their cover, I get paid 6 weeks holidays and they will even pay for ink and paper for my printer, lots of things they pay for that they are not obliged to do.

I think you can get away with that one, being a foreign name and all :)

I work with a lot of Engineers and Geoscientists. My spelling is pretty good compared with many of them. Grammar too. But their skills and knowhow arent built on perfect spelling. My employers spelling is atrocious but he is a world renouned Engineer. He gets someone else to mop up on his spelling. It isnt crucial in the scientific or engineering world.

I think spelling and grammar is very important when sending emails to companies, not so much between your colleagues or people you know.

Here on the Forum it shouldn't matter, the bad spelling award should be taken away.

You should see some of the emails my boss sends to his customers. :D

But yes, I agree. Front end stuff in particular should be polished.

I am constantly emailing documents to customers but I use a spell checker before I send them. Many of our customers are foreign anyway so most dont give a sh1te.

My ex wifes spelling and grammar was exemplary. Her knowledge of history and English Literature was better than most. But she couldnt add up. And was geographically challenged. Sometimes people use spelling as a cheap way to score a point, but doing that shows that they are desperate to find fault.

    Tim,

BUPA does offer international medical cover - see here: BUPA International, but I rather think you'll have to wait until Tuesday before you can speak with them ;).

There are quite a few other providers which are listed on this page of the Expats web site.

BUPA does offer international medical cover. I was on it for years. But it was medical cover.

If Tim wants more comprehensive coverage then he could consider a "key man" policy. These are not available to to the general public but only to companies to protect their most important/valuable employees. My father, through his company, had one for many years issued by an underwriter in London even though my father was an Expat living in Malaysia.

He'd need to apply on his company letterhead and be prepared for annual medicals at a named private medical facility.

I realise it is possibly not relevant because the Belgians may have a different process etc but looking it up, it is considered good practice in the UK for a client to (amongst other things) select a contractor on the basis of their health and safety competence which includes proof of adequate insurance.

I have been covered before by one of the companies on the list you posted (CEGA Air Ambulance) through a company I was working for, its really all about what I can afford personally now I have my own company. I also think that I cannot afford not to be insured, I'm not the kind of person that relies on good fortune and luck.

In that case I urge you to consider a Keyman policy. Common sense really :D.
