I am just back from 24 days with my kids.

I would not have gone if Ana had been there but she had left thank god

Granny is not well and can no longer cook nor do any other household tasks, I never wanted her to do all that stuff anyway as she is too old and should be relaxing in her old age, she turns 80 this year.

So I had to fix the washing machine, do the washing, do the Ironing and learn to cook local dishes.

I did a lot of the washing up as well but Tita Dhang helps out with that and the general cleaning and some breakfast cooking but she's not really able to do more than that.

So I had to learn a few of the major Filipino dishes amongst my usual Chinese dishes, I started with Sinigang na Baboy it's not my favourite but the family really liked it, next was Nilagang Baboy which I am quite fond of, I am making that here in the UK tonight :)

Next was Chicken Adobo and I was astounded how simple it is and how well it turned out, it's my favourite and is so simple they all loved it but sadly I never took a picture.

Then at Christmas I had to cater for about 25 so I went for Pancit Canton, my own Chicken and Green Pepper in Oyster sauce, baked Chicken drumsticks with soy and garlic marinade and coated with hoisin sauce.

This is my Pancit Canton it went down very well with everyone :)

This is the Nilaga, it does not look lovely in the Wok but it was really nice :)

I also learned to cook Tocino for breakfast and oddly scrambled eggs something I never cooked in the UK.

I did some European dishes and amazingly it all went down really well :)

    Just be patient, mate.

only thing is that your traveling may have to happen more often, once the Lola goes..........

Yes I am aware of that, but although she is not well she was looking good when I left, she is a very strong lady, the ultrasound showed that her heart is basically ok, she has some shadows on her lungs and I think that is why she ahs been unwell for the last few months, as an old person she is not able to shake off fluid on her lungs quite as well as someone younger, she feels sore everywhere but mostly her back, the family are helping a lot they have paid all the medical fees so far and make sure they take her to the hospital and the doctor.

When I left she was looking good but also looking like an 80 year old lady, I love her so much she has done so much for my children over the last 15 years.

This is Virginia, probably 18 or 19 years ago, she showed me this pic for the first time this trip, Ana is in the middle at the back Tatay to the right, Virginia to the left of him then her sister ate Lucia, not sure of the names of the others.

This was a couple of weeks ago, she is so strong just reading stuff on a tablet that I brought over.
