And a slight headache is bubbling away after a long day moving into my new flat But also a good feeling as the next step is really for Joy to start preparations for our spouse visa.. So, if I'm absent over the coming days it will be to find a suitable washing machine, buy some blinds and fix them up, get the usual stuff for a new place and a few more bubbling headaches with some other stuff I need to do..
Kuya, Sincere best wishes for a smooth transition, a peaceful home and a shining life together with Joy. I've moved 6 times since 2002 and really understand. This last time was especially difficult. Just take care of yourself and think clearly about what you buy. Thinking of you.
Good luck Sean, I've only moved twice in the last 15 years both times were incredibly stressful, the last one particularly so as I was moving out of my home in Scotland to live in a rented flat down here. But you have a lot to look forward to, so all the best sir!
Well glad you moved ok, now its about making the place your own. I'm astill doing that to our place 6 uears after moving in! Obviously you'll have to re decorate when Joy comes over!
Oh, I know it She has already "suggested" a few things for me to do, but this place smells like fresh paint as it is, no need for me to do anything other than change the curtains just yet... And get rid of that paint smell. When she comes over I will happily follow her orders, but till then I think I'll just have as easy and stress free a time as I can.
Things just have to look nice, I remember when I was a cadet and the captain used to do his weekly inspections of the accomodation, galley etc. Everyone gets their cabins cleaned by the stewards apart from the cadets. The cabins have a curtain across the door which we used to spray pledge polish onto so when he opened the curtain to come into the cabin he got a whiff of polish. Helps make him think the cabin is clean. Also used to spray some into the carpet as well! Also get rid of any pictures of ex girlfriends that you may have left lying around in say an oldshoe box in a draw, especailly if that ex girlfriend is a filipina. This is exactly what I didn't do when my wife came to the uk Quite a big arguement to say the least!!!
Don't worry about paint smells, it's the dried fish you have to worry about. .That will kill the paint smell :lovey:
Had a bit of a busy day today, due to my computer. 64 bit Windows 7 Packard Bell imedia, but the blasted thing wouldn't connect to the internet Spent a few hours playing around with that whilst running out to get some stuff I need and trying to find a washing machine. Went to a few small dealers to see if I could get a deal, but it seems that the only way to save a bit of cash these days is to buy from a major store! Oh well, should find one tomorrow.. No old pictures of any ex's lying around, if there was I would have slung them by now...
To be honest I thought I had thrown them all out about 6 months before but forgot about this particular box! That was brought up for the next 5 or so years.........long memory women.
Carpet - you had carpet?! No such luxuries for the shared Cadet accommodation when I started my apprenticeship in the late 1960s. The senior Cadet often had his own cabin (if there was no 4th Officer) which was carpeted and cleaned by a steward. It was during my first year at sea that I first came to the Philippines with a part cargo of frozen lamb from New Zealand. This was off-loaded into lighters from anchorage as neither Manila nor Cebu could take a ship of our size alongside. As I had just completed my lifeboat training, I was assigned to cox the two-hourly launch service between the ship and shore for our passengers and crew alike. Whilst it made for long days, it did get me out of boring cargo watches. Great days!
PracticalTips for you Kuya (out of own experience) 1.) Locate the next Asian store, not necessarily Pinoy,Chinese will do. Go shopping asap with your loved one.foodis a very important commodity for Filipinos and rates very high in their life. 2.)Locate suitable clothing stores, i ended up after arrival with a childrens dpt. Because i wasn't prepared. Only aweeklaterifound places for small people. 3.) Check for Pinoy/Uk associations in town. The Pinoy Embassy has contact lists of them.( mostly) 4.) Meet asap with a happy couple nearby where the ladies can chat about this or that as woman do. I did not gave that much thought and my Wife ended at first with a "nasty woman" as her first contact. The bad influence of that person took a while to eradicate. If neccesary travel even distant to meet some happy couple. But the first contacts are crucial. Thats so far what comes into my mind right away.
