I know that quite a few people on this forum are interested in computers and computer security, so I just wanted to tell you about a hardware-encrypted USB flash drive I just bought from iStorage The dataShur USB flash drive is accessed via a 7-15 digit PIN code on the drive itself. That means it is immune to keyloggers and brute-force attacks; it also makes it truly platform-independent. iStorage claim that no software or drivers are required but, upon first insertion into a Windows 7 PC, a driver was automatically downloaded from Microsoft Update. The flash drive is available direct from iStorage, Amazon and a host of other websites... http://www.istorage-uk.com/datashur.php http://www.amazon.co.uk/iStorage-Da...1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1325247102&sr=1-1
Thanks Howerd for the very timely post. I just ordered the 16GB version from Amazon which sounds perfect for me. (hopefully) The price made my eyes water at first, but couldn't find anything comparable for less so had to bite the bullet. If there is a better deal out there please, everyone don't tell me, I don't want to know.
I bought it as an Xmas present for myself and ordered from iStorage but on Amazon website - it was cheaper than going to the manufacturers direct, but I still think some other websites (inlcuding BT) are cheaper. The advantage of buying from iStorage was that after placing my order I called them with some technical questions. They did not have the 4GB version I ordered so they asked if they could send the 8GB version instead; I accepted gracefully! Must say, that I am most impressed with iStorage and their products; all of their products include hardware encryption with PIN authentication - I think I may well buy one of their USB hard drives soon. Since my purchase, I have found a wonderful website that has portable versions of some top-notch open-source Windows applications for the PC, downloadable within the launcher program supplied and instructions on how to convert your existing applications to run on the platform. Everything is free of course... www.portableapps.com
Good find Howerd - at last a decent secure USB flash drive with top notch security. Added to my wish-list on Amazon.
