The title basically says it all. The level of fees for visas (settlement / spouse etc) is already outrageously high (and I'm sure bears no link to the actual cost of processing) but why does the Home Office require payment in USD? I have paid the fees from here in UK and with the post Brexit fall in the value of Sterling have been regally humped in the process. I appreciate that many on here will be paying from the Pinas so it's possibly not really an issue - and I've not tracked PHP against Sterling. I'm not naive and appreciate this policy will be partly (or wholly) driven by the desire to maximise revenue from the process. Greedy bar-stewards!
Well, below is the Governments take on it; https://www.gov.uk/government/world-location-news/online-payment-in-usd-for-visa-applications
Thanks Timmers - and so the march of US financial hegemony continues. Perhaps in a generation it'll be China we'll kow tow to. Gerry
Indeed, every dog has its day, it may well be China in the future , the pound was the world reserve currency until just after WW1; https://www.quora.com/How-did-the-British-pound-stop-being-the-world-reserve-currency
