Though for most this might seem a silly question, given the current trend for R&B, Rap and the TV schedules being taken up with trying to find the next pop star... But, it seems one song has broken all expectations and came out of nowhere to sell millions of copies.

    Let Her Go by Passenger

This song is almost a year old now, but it still sits comfortably in the download charts and gets a lot of airplay (for lack of better words) on Spotify and the YouTube video has over 51 million views to date.

I've bought this on mp3, listen to it almost daily and I'm guessing countless others around the world have also taken this song to their hearts. In some ways it reminds me of José González and his classic Heartbeats and also how that song took on a life of its own.

So could this start a trend where we see more folk songs going viral?

    Did it ever go away?

I've been a fan of all kinds of folk music for decades!

It never went away, as such.. But there was a time when folk songs and folk rock was the way to go for most musicians if they wanted to be successful. Recently, folk has been a pretty small niche as far as musical tastes are concerned.

But I'm guessing some of those doing the festivals are crying out for stuff like this. Stuff you can learn to play guitar too..

Ah I could not actually play this earlier, just got to hear it now, this is an excellent great modern song.

I rarely know the names of any bands or pieces of music these days and did not recognise this but I have heard it and enjoyed it often.
