When we go to the phils in June the wife is thinking of bringing one of her sisters to manila to help find a house for us to rent. The wife was thinking about getting her there on a ferry which I have no problem with. We will probably go to the province for a week or so before returning to manila and then home.

Anyway I was thinking of flying her sister back with us to the province but she doesn't have a passport. Does she need one for internal flights or can she get away with another form of ID and if so what?

No, she doesn't. She just needs some acceptable ID

Yesterday Kay's mother flew from Pagadian to Manila to spend a couple of months with her - originally Kay thought that her mother would need to take the ferry, as she did not have so much as an NBI clearance, let alone a passport, but on checking with Cebu Pacific it turned out that some other ID would do.

I'll ask Kay what ID Mama actually used and post the answer tomorrow.

    Any photo ID.

    Cebu Pacific Terms and Conditions:

"For purposes of passenger identification, Cebu Pacific Air will not accept expired or damaged forms of photo-id on any flight. In certain instances, a passenger may be required to present more than one identification card."

    http://www.cebupacificair.com/pages/travelregulations.aspx

    PAL Express Tterms and Conditions:

For Domestic flights: valid ID card (company, school, government issued: Driver's license, TIN, SSS, Barangay, Voter's, PRC and the likes) with picture and e-ticket itinerary.

For International flights: a valid Passport, Visa and/or other travel documents required for the country of destination and passenger e-ticket itinerary.

NOTE: It is the sole responsibility of the passenger to ensure that he/she has the proper travel documents required for his/her destination. The Airline will not be liable for any consequential expense or loss as a result.

•I don't have an ID card, what can I present?
Valid NBI or Police clearance with picture. Infants/children without IDs can present their birth certificates.

Just a comment on Philippines domestic ferries (I once worked for a P&I Club that insured some, and could write a book) - Maersk do not permit their staff to travel on them.

They are usually bought secondhand from Japan and additional gensets for aircon etc are often installed high in the structure without an inclining experiment.

Japanese spares are expensive and often detained in customs so locally made pattern spares in pot metal are substituted.

Pay is lower than for foreign owned deep sea ships so you may form your own opinion on crew calibre.

There is far too much "bahala na" about domestic ferries for my comfort.

Excellant information, thank you. I'll the wife know and she can talk to the sister. Should be interesting as she's never been on a plane before!!

Know what you mean about the feries out there and to be honest I try to avois them at all costs. They are similar to the pilgrim ferries that run out Port Suez though these are considerable worse. They just bang on an extra 2 or 3 deck on the accomodation with all the additional gear that goes with it (services etc, no extra lifesaving / fire fighting appliances though!). No inclining experiment, no stability data at all. Just untie the ropes and hope you don't get caught beam on to the weather!!!
