I'm voting Labour in May

After a long thoughtful and engaging few weeks, I have decided to vote labour in the upcoming election. I was toying with the idea of voting Green, because I thought why not?

However, there are a few reasons why I am going to be voting Labour in May. First of all, my local labour MP it's on record stating that she felt the £18,600 minimum salary was far too much. She even chairs the committee that was looking into this minimum income. Secondly, Ed Miliband has grown on me, after seeing him speaking to young voters on BBC3 I got the impression that he is a really good guy who sadly has to make compromises but is still a determined fellow. Not to mention that he was tutored by the political sage Tony Benn!

Now, I know some of you will be thinking 'oh great, red Ed'. Well, the current government has increased the national debt more than the previous Labour administration, so I think we need a new way forward.

Not to mention the sell-off of the NHS, the rise of food banks, blatant bedroom tax which was an attack on the poor - something that Labour have promised to remove.

All in all, I have suffered at the hands of this government and so have members of my family. It would be foolish of me to consider voting Conservative or Liberal Democrat.

Once again, I shall refrain from going anywhere near a ballot box as I don't have the right to vote in the UK, due to being fat. old-ish and foreign...

But I understand your feelings fully, and although not being in total agreement with you, wish you luck.

It is very nice to see you post again, one of this days we should go for a Nando's............

Alas, I've been sick lately with graft vs host disease, pretty much expected after a transplant. But I didn't think it would knock me for six like it has done.. Plus breaking my ankle didn't help!!!

My middle name is now 'Lucky Eddie'!

Our local MP is Mark Williams - Lib Dem, and at the last election he got 50% of the vote in our constituency. Its a shame the LibDems are on course for a hiding in May, but I sincerely hope we keep Mark as he works tirelessly in the area, I often see him around town. He'll get my vote. Labour, Cons, UKIP and Greens have zero chance here, so it'll be a straight fight between Plaid and LibDem.

Sorry to hear this Sean, I can imagine that is pretty hard to get through :(

Me I have no idea which way to vote, all I can say is it won't be Tory.

Rob, if I had a LibDem I respected I might even go from my vote. And in some ways, the fact that I live in arrival labour dominated constituency make it easier to vote Labour.

I was going to make a protest vote against labour I would likely vote Green, but they only got a few hundred votes in this constituency last time.

Oss, I don't think anyone north of the Midlands should really consider voting Tory! ;)

It sure is an interesting looking election. With lots of permutations possible on the eventual coalition outcome.

If I read this right then national debt is increasing but deficit is decreasing

    http://www.bbc.com/news/business-25944653

Surely alot of this is down to the global recession isn't it?

I've no idea who I'm going to vote for. Our local bloke is conservative, I think its been held by them for a good few years. The present guy seems to be doing well at a local level but at a national level I'm not sure

Labour have lied in the past, always breaking their promises, i did watch the free speech myself, and he was saying that they will increase the minimum wage, I however will be voting the SNP

I only know the parties I wont be voting for at the May election, Tories, Lib Dems and the Greens, my heart tells me to vote for UKIP and my brain tells me to vote for Labour :)

Interesting how the poll of polls seem to put either Labour and Tories neck and neck or one is half a percent ahead of the other. What's shocking is UKIP seem to out-polling LibDems. The closer we get to the election, the more I think a Lab-Con coalition seems the most sensible, but at the same time, the most unpalatable to people. But whats the alternative? Tories/UKIP? That would be a right wingers wet dream and a backwards step for the country. Labour and SNP, that would be not so bad, but still it would alienate people south of Manchester, Wales and NI. Then there's the rainbow coalition of Lab, SNP, Plaid, Greens, LibDems & the NI parties. That would be a recipe for another election further down the line. Or how about a Lab/LibDem? The possibilities are endless, the future is fair game. We are looking at a massive sea change in UK politics.

There is a slight chance that Labour may form a coalition with the NSP, with the future end result being the partition of the Union..... Without recurring to use another Scottish referendum.......

I think it would be a hands down Labour victory if they had a more charismatic leader, Miliband isn't the best of getting his policies across to the voters.

I think the live TV debates will decide the next leader, they had such a bearing on the last one.

Timmers, before voting UKIP think about how their policies are to the right of the Tories and they're largely made up of failed and disgraced ex Tories!

Not to mention they still haven't produced a manifesto, they change opinions with the wind. Except for their loathing of the NHS.

We have to see what UKIP come up with once the campaigning gets into full swing in a couple of weeks, as with all the parties, any cracks will appear in their manifestos on the run up to the election.

I gather UKIP are getting in a Tombola to select their final manifesto policies.

We all know their stance on immigration, that's good enough for me on its own.

Yes and Europe. They are pretty clear on that.

Though he has had a change of mind on numbers just recently. Just last week?

I think if I voted UKIP I'd need to wash myself for a few weeks, I'd feel dirty..

That's not a dig at you, but I do see them using immigrants as a bat to hit the electorate with, which is potentially my wife and her future.

I'm still going through Cancer treatment and later this year I'm supposed to be extending my wife's visa. I'll probably go back to work long before I'm ready just to ensure that happens, directly because the current government took away many of my rights.

To me, UKIP would probably make things worse for me so my own personal interests say I can't vote anything to the right of Labour.
