    Kumusta ka!

My name is Phil Unciano and I'm a first generation british filipino living in Leeds, Yorkshire.

It is one of my life goals to become a fluent speaker in ilocano as I was not taught as a child.

I have been self learning ilocano on and off through books and YouTube clips but am desperately seeking a teacher/tutor to speak ilocano with on a regular basis. Through webcast or face-face ideally.

Is there anyone in this forum that could help me?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Agyamanak!

    Hi roaming-on,

My parents are from Ilocos Norte and I still have loads if family in Batac and Cagayan and ilocano was the only the way I could be understood by my Lolo before he passed away.

Any suggestions on how to help me would be greatly appreciated.

    Salamat po

"Jakamawatan" and "Idjay" are the only ones I picked up from an advert back at home. :p

Hope you could find someone to help you, Philip.

And welcome to our friendly forum by the way. :)

Don't your family speak Tagalog? much more easy to learn. Some members speak Tagalog on here.

Sorry Phil, I don't know anyone....but I think you can search online for ilocano tuitor. And while you can't get legitimate one, you can search online word by word for that.
Jim was right....why try tagalog, it's universal dialect all over the Philippines.

Weird thing I noticed back at home in June of last year is when I went to Manila, there are a lot of Bisaya-speaking people and Tagalog-speaking in Cebu.

Do you not know any native Illocano speakers in Leeds? Better to have an informal chat with a group of friends who speak the language than using an online tutor.

Best of luck with the language training Phil.

That's what you get when Cebu Pacific has the 1 Peso special flight deals. ;)

    Thanks for your replies.

My folks do speak Tagalog too and I know it would be easier to learn it as there are more resources but that's not what I want to learn.

Haven't found an ilocano in Leeds yet by I'm always on the search. If anybody knows someone in the Leeds or the Yorkshire area please let me know.
