How easy or difficult is it to get a work visa for my Filipino boyfriend to work in Malta?
He's done a basic care qualification, but how easy would it be for him to get a job working in a care home, hotel or some other tourist industry?
Someone told me he would need £6,000 to be able to sign up for an agency to work here...surely this can't be correct,as most Filipinos don't have his sort of money.
My ultimate aim is to bring him to the UK,but that's impossible without a job -maybe it will be feasible if he's already working in Malta?

Why does he want to go to Malta?

He will need to find an employer who is prepared to sponsor his work visa and, in addition, he'll need to register with an agent in the Philippines who'll liaise with the employer (or employer's agent) and ensure that he (your boyfriend) has all the correct do0cumentation. This will cost up to about £6,000. Rip-off? For sure, but it's the only way.

However he will need to have recognised training certification and at least three years' experience. Also he will not be able to work for any government-owned or contracted employer as he won't be fluent in spoken and written Malti; he will be restricted to working for a private individual. I should also mention that work permits are exclusive to the named employer and he will not be permitted to change employers.

I assume you'll sponsor his settlement visa. Whether or not he is working is totally irrelevant to that process. UKVI will not take into account any employment he has at the time of application; it is your employment and finances that have to meet their requirements.

Possibly because Malta is an English-speaking Catholic country and there are more Filipinos here than any other foreign workers - with the possible exception of Brits.

So he can get regular work and then be in a position to apply for a visitor visa for the UK.Even if I sponsor him financially for his visit to the UK,I've been told he has little chance of being granted even a tourist visa because he hasn't got regular work or
    savings in the Philippines.
