Adoption is tricky especially with an international dimension. Philppines has had a history of relative adoption where relatives register the child and not done officially. This can then have problems when trying to get child passport in name of child when for example UK wants information associated with pregnancy and evidence were in same place for conception - not good enough to just have name on birth certificate although I think now if done quickly after birth and especially if married then may not be so much of an issue these days. Less of an issue for mother but has been issue for fathers.

As I understand it there are three options in philippines for adoption - relative adoption, in country adoption and inter country adoption. First two are local to philippines arrangements and no inter country adoption certificate. Both require formal assessment of parents and also used to require family court approval although think things have changed in terms of process. With court approval requirements dont think quick. Inter country adoption adds to costs and complications massively as requires an inter country adoption agency to be involved and as I understood it requires assessments in overseas country that you are based in. That said if planning on getting kid citizenship based on your citizenship it is potentially the best option.

I adopted step children in UK as simplest way of legalizing our situation (based in UK not allowed to adopt locally overseas) but even that caused problems as not legally recognised in philippines and will require court order to get it legally recognised - similiar process to getting divorces recognised as I understand it but not discovered much on process or cost. At the moment we have sorted by letting philippines passports expire and only traveling on UK passports. We all got balikbayan stamps on arrival on most recent trip.

Worth getting legal advice I suspect based on exact details of what you are planning both in Spain and in philippines as has potential to get very complicated. That said finding someone with detailed knowledge of this could be tricky. Can probably find someone who can cover local situation in one or other country but adoption, inter country aspects and immigration issues will reduce the field of advisors somewhat.

Currently she is looking at local adoption in the Philippines, and then keeping the baby with one of her friend's as childminder. Them waiting until the baby is a bit older, before bring the child to live with us in Spain. -----she is is the Philippines in September - the baby is being adopted and she will be the significant parent. She is 48 and knows a lawyer well who can organise everything. I am 70 so am significantly older, as adoption is preferred for children whose parent is 45 years older not more.

She nows has a job in the UK and gets £40,000 annually. She wants to earn some money before choosing to stay full-time in Spain with me. For now I see her fairly regularly, though i am not seeing her to the beginning of November. I find it very uncomfortable to fly to the Philippines as seats are so small. I would like to shed 5 stone.

I most certainly do not want to live in the UK again, as life is much cheaper in Spain.
