This post is a bit technical, apologies in advance if its a load of gobblygook: Most people will check their Yahoo email by logging into yahoo.com/yahoo.co.uk and then clicking on the Mail page, then reading or replying to messages from there. Now, in some regions of the world (the UK and Asia for example), Yahoo email is accessible through email clients using the POP protocol - this could be Outlook Express, Outlook or Thunderbird. Now, it seems Yahoo has quietly allowed Yahoo users to access their emails via the IMAP protocol. Why is IMAP better than POP? With POP, you always download the message OFF the mail server onto your computer, and thats the only copy of the message. With IMAP, the message stays on the mail server until you delete it or move it to another folder. The main advantage is that you can access your mail at home, on your iphone or at an internet cafe, and keep it all syncronised across all devices, wherever you are in the world. Anyway, lets cut to the chase, heres the settings you need for your email client/iphone/ipod to get Yahoo working: Incoming server: imap.mail.yahoo.com select Port 993, SSL enabled Outgoing server: smtp.mail.yahoo.com select Port 465, SSL enabled Log in: Your Yahoo ID Password: Your password Why IMAP is better than POP: http://lifehacker.com/110333/why-imap-is-better-than-pop IMAP vs POP, the difference: http://www1.umn.edu/adcs/guides/email/imapvspop.html Happy emailing

Basically, Yahoo have noticed a surge in Google and Hotmail accounts and a loss to their own. And most people are getting emails through their phones now, so time to move with the times..
