Hi, I am Bing and I'm married to a British national. We've been living in the Philippines for 10 years and are now planning to move back to Northern Ireland. I would love to hear some advise from those who made a similar move. We are thinking of bringing some of our favorite furnitures with us and would like to get some tip on the most economical way of doing it (if it's even recommended). Hope to hear from you.
Hello Bing. I don't really know the answer to your question but the climate is very different here and wooden furniture may not like the new climate! I suggest you look to see if wood treatments may be necessary. I do recall a friend who brought back furniture from Singapore and had the treat the wood with oil or wax for a few months before returning to the UK.
Hi bing, welcome to the forum. If its wooden furniture it maybe worth looking if there are any custom restrictions with bringing it over here.
Yes, these are all hardwood. I never thought about the weather compatibility. Thanks for pointing it out.
Hi Guys, my name is John. Fly out to Mindanao 12th June, after 7 years of back and forth I have now retired and decided to marry my long suffering sweetheart. So its off to the consul in Cebu to exchange that very expensive piece of paper, them make an honest woman of her lol and then apply for my 13a.
Welcome to the forum John and best of luck in Mindanao. Spent 5 weeks there earlier this year doing exactly what you're doing.
Must bring this example up the next time my mahal complains about being apart for a few months! Good luck to you sir and welcome to the welcome.
Hello Bing. Welcome here. I do hope all goes smoothly for you. It's a slightly different scenario to the one heard most often. Can I take it you have British Citizenship? Or will you need to go through the Visa "sausage machine"? I have no idea on the costings for large personal effects shipped from Philippines to UK, but I have some info on shipping from UK to Phils. Just a couple of weeks ago I was quoted an average £160 per cubic meter (finally depends on how many cubic meters as it's on a kind of sliding scale. Of course once you get to about 12-15 cubic meters you're in line to start thinking about a container shipment of your own rather than a consolidated shipment. But anyway you now have a ballpark figure. May I enquire as to the major reason to decide to come to UK? It's just that I'm considering moving out of UK to Phils and am curious.
Ah, a man with the same dreams as me. Hope the wedding is wonderful and hope your future together will shine. Good luck and sincere best wishes. Let us know how things progress. Hopefully I can learn from your experiences.
