Welcome Toby. The Philippines is a bit like marmite, you either love it or hate it. The only way to truly know the culture, the country and the Filipino people is to take time and visit, they are very warm welcoming people and you will understand them more by visiting their country and understand more of their foods and lifestyle.
Cant tell if you like a country without setting foot in it,the food isn't all that,i have been to nearly every country in asia and pinoy food isn't the best,anyway,enjoy your trip.
More like a South American banana republic plonked down in South East Asia....with totally GORGEOUS young ladies by the million. You can get hooked on this crazy place. Maddening at times , yet sort of addictive . Food, I agree, is not what one would expect in Asia, to be polite.
Agreed but I’m a fussy eater. The thing I enjoy most is adobo. I’ve never been in a country that has condensed/evaporated milk in almost every sweet dessert that they make.
I am not a fussy eater,i eat anything,but the majority of pinoy food is crud,a scale of 1-10 thai food is 10 pinoy is 1 I always say why are there so many thai restaurants in the western world but so few filipino,rhetorical question
my wife makes a sort of slop pudding using a sort of biscuit--soaked in evap milk and fruit cocktail. fortunately i rarely eat puddings.
I have known a few filipinas,to a woman they have the knack of turning perfectly good food into inedible indescribables but never have I sampled the dubious delights of "Slop Pudding"
Maybe my pallet is not as sensitive as some of you but I find a lot of the Filipino foods my wife cooks fantastic as full of flavours, mango float or sweet puddings I can’t say no to. Her sweet fruit cocktail is to die for . The only food I have so far refused is dried fish, think I need to lose my sense of smell to try eating that.
Ana in spite of her many faults is an excellent self taught cook, there are very few things she ever made that I did not enjoy. Nanay on the other hand is just simply a wonderful cook, this next trip I am going to get up early and record her recipes, I have said this for years but this time I will do it.
I'm fussy too Paul, but you actually like Halo Halo which I suspect is full of Carnation Milk I am not a fan of that The Carnation Milk gets used in a lot of other things too but strangely it can come out quite well
There are lots of exceptions believe it or not.. We have Thai friends that visit us that we have known for many years.. The last to visit has a big Thai restaurant in Melbourne and she absolutely loved the Filipino restaurants we took her too.. Filipino food cooked correctly is damned good actually!
