UK We want a rebate on fees
    EU Ok
UK We don't want to be in the Euro
    EU Ok
UK We don't want to be in the Schengen either
    EU Ok
UK We want a restriction on benefits until people have been here for some time
    EU Ok
UK We want to stop child benefits being paid to kids who are not here
    EU Ok
UK We want to kick out people who come here that don't work and can't afford to keep themselves.
EU Ok, but you can already do this
UK WE want lots of preferential treatment that the other countries don't get.
EU Errr, we can't give you that unless all the other countries agree
UK Don't give us what we want and we will leave
EU That's a bit of an over reaction, but it is your choice
UK OK we're out of here
    EU Bye then
UK Now we are leaving we want ALL of the things we had before
EU Errr, it doesn't work like that
UK If you don't give us what we want, we'll leave with nothing
EU (Scratches head) Errr, ummm, ok then.
UK We really mean it, we are prepared to walk away with nothing just to teach you a lesson
EU Bye (again). - Scratches head.

Farage claimed a 52-48 result would be inconclusive, and a Brexshiitter started an online petition for a second referendum prior to June 23rd. That petition was signed 2 million times. Somehow, this behaviour is now dubbed "sour grapes" as people reduce the debate to a "we scored more than you". In the real world, a few weeks ago I had to trim my working staff and the main cause for this was Brexit. Chances are, with an even weaker Government and my German clients spending less, that I will be making the same decision again this financial year.

But, come on, we are getting a blue passport. How brilliant is that?

    Brexit talks have begun.

I don't know why there are so many posts and threads here from remoaners hoping Brexit will not happen or that the UK will not get a deal.

Again - Brexit talks have begun.

They have, indeed, begun. And they're going really really well.

Everybody knew there would be short-term problems whilst the withdrawal from the EU was taking place.
There will be decades where the UK will be able to trade with whoever we want to trade with.

Are you saying we can't currently trade with whoever we want to trade with?

I can tell you that these short term problems have long term effects on the person I had to lay off. I can also tell you that the very future of my company is at risk.

I am a director of a limited company too but I don't employ anyone else except myself.
    Hope your company stays afloat.

If you deal mostly with exports, surely the weaker pound works in your favour?

Why are your German clients getting spooked already? Brexit is not complete yet. No firm plans are in place as to what happens. They should be dealing with reality, not fears.

As a footnote, the UK is a potential market of 60 million plus people. It's in Europe's interest to get the best deal for all. That's what matters, right? A lot is at stake both sides of the channel. Its not just us who will suffer should it all go wrong.

I am not selling nor exporting short term products. If a client buys a service from me, it is generally a project that lasts 3 years or more before completion, and is followed by ongoing maintenance contracts. The lower exchange rate may make my services cheaper, but the ongoing risk that Brexit brings is resulting in a number of my clients either going elsewhere or adopting a "wait and see" philosophy. There is a significant difference in my turnover pre and post Brexit.

On the positive side, as Brexit is happening there should be a more bullish attitude as time goes on when people are faced with less uncertainty.
The Tory government has caused a lot of uncertainty by not covering itself in glory when a) Cameron misjudged the electorate causing the referendum to take place and b) May misjudged the electorate at the last general election.

I am too old to be working abroad as I used to do, but I did previously see a British workforce that was very proactive and confident. I can't see the never-say-die mentality disappearing from Brits and feel sure we will have lots of deal makers out and about when the EU shackles are well and truly cast aside.
If you can weather the choppy waters for a couple of years Bluebird, you may get business you never anticipated.
Best of luck as you navigate your way through.

Business can't wait for reality Rob, almost all businesses have to make plans now, plans that will impact their future, business is always about predicting what will happen next and hopefully getting it right because the cost of failure is extinction.

The reason my business failed was that I foolishly stopped looking for new work when requested to do so by a large existing customer that customer had verbally offered me five years work and wanted me to use all of my time to concentrate on their projects.

Two things went wrong, first they diverted my attention from the main 5 year (paying) project into an unpaid side project which was a joint venture but risky and then along came the financial crisis which gave them the opportunity to go back on their word.

Immediately prior to the start of the 5 year project in January 2007, I had turned down a project to do some work for a new customer in Edinburgh, that was CRM work and could have given me the buffer to absorb the shock of the 2008 financial crisis, but I took my eye off the ball I wasn't looking to the future and I paid a heavy price for that, including losing my home in Scotland.

We are seeing more and more companies preparing to move their headquarters prior to BREXIT which will likely also move their tax jurisdiction, they are planning for their future.
