Been trying to google for something, and everytime I try, regardless of what, it just crashes.

it seems top have some issues with IE.

As soon as I type a letter or two in the search bar, pffttttt...........

    Any idea guys...??

Opening Chrome on its own, it ok, no problems, Bur I cannot seem to find a Chrome toolbar to download...

Does your pc have a program to find and fix problems? If so use that first.

    I would then.....

    1. Restart laptop and see if it is ok afterwards.

    2. If not, reinstall Internet Explorer, Microsoft website? IE9 is the latest.

    3. Use Norton Utilities (free 30 day trial) to see if that helps.

In retrospect, I have had some issues with it for a while, crashing off and on, as I typed and address on the google bar, but i always thought that it was due to being popular for searches, and didn't bother much, either, when traffic slowed down to a trickle...
But after your imput, and a long visit on some forums for a salutary read, I sussed out that, maybe, my IE7 was being screwed up by Microsoft itself, in favour of IE9....:erm:

So anyway, I uninstalled 7, and installed 9, but nothing happened.. I rebooted on a couple of occasions, but still zilch.....:erm:

Bugger that for a lark, I am going to bed now....

This morning, as I powered up the pc, the screen for IE9 was on, and after followuing a couple of simple (for somebody else) instructions, I got it going...

Everything is honkydory now. Google works like a charm, the PC is a hell of a lot faster and responsive.
    :vhappy:Don't ask me why.......:erm:

Ah you should have been off IE7 long ago Dom, IE6 and IE7 were a world unto themselves they really made the web hard for developers and users alike, IE9 is vastly improved in terms of support for standards.

I read this and immediately downloaded and installed IE9.

Just goes to show how much I trust you guys. He he.

Normally I'm very careful about downloading and installing stuff.

I prefer Google Chrome these days Peter, but IE9 is a vast improvement over previous versions of IE, particularly in the Javascript interpreter which is at least 10 time faster than it used to be in IE7, net result is a faster browser.

As for standards there are tests provided by "The Web Standards Project" called 'Acid' tests, they seek to test the rendering engines in browsers to make sure that pages are drawn properly and look the same in all browsers

    http://acid3.acidtests.org/

IE9 and Google Chrome both now pass this test with scores of 100 out of a 100 they didn't used to.

Saying that IE9 is still not 100% compliant, I'm working on something just now where the text has a drop shadow implemented in CSS and IE does not render it whereas Chrome does, the simple solution was don't draw a drop shadow :)

Me, I'm just a simple user.
Getting too long in the tooth to prioritise my time understanding 'what's under the bonnet'. He he
Much more excited to enjoy the 'drive'

Always appreciated your help oss. I seem to be able to understand stuff from the way explain it. Thanks :like:
