Thanks for the reply, John! Im confused tho, my boyfriend is planning his trip to go here in PH on Nov 2 - 20 and we plan to get married within that time. I'm sorry for asking too much but are there new requirements now for us to get married? No more need for CNI? And where do we get the affidavit? Thanks!

Did you read the thread, Seychelle. The lads on there explain. They went through that process just recently.

Dont think so. We did it in just over two weeks, with a lot of forward planning to get it right.

There a fixers for certain things but you can't fix that one I'm afraid. You need more time to get everything in place.

ohhh nooo :-( thanks for your reply. ive read on other blogs we can have the marriage lic rushed but not sure if its gonna be legit as it may cause problems for me getting a spouse visa :-( he might loose his job if he'll stay more than 12 days :-(

The 10 day posting cannot be worked around, not do-able. A fixer can sort the seminars and stuff out but not the 10 day posting (as far as I know anyhow and we had the assistance of an influential member of society in the wifes family). The only way is for your partner to speak nicely to his employers. Asides from that as you have already said, you wouldn't want to jeopardise things going forward if the paperwork doesn't look quite right. I mean you will be submitting all sorts of info for the spousal application and if the UKVI checks your "hubbys" passport entry date / leaving dates, they will quickly see there are anomolies.

There are others on the forum who I believe have married in HK and they would be able to advise and yes that may be a practical alternative. Either way, Good Luck :)

Do we still need to attend that seminars although its only civil marriage? and also how long does it take to receive the affirmation/affidavit from the embassy as I am arriving PH on 8 Jan 2015 and our wedding is on 15 January 2015.

Yes. Though we escaped it by using an agent.

Also there is an age threshold, I seem to recall. 25 ?

Yes if 25 or below, parental consent is required.

I will turn 26 before i get married so hopefully there will be no more hassle for that.

Thank you for your help :)

Yes. I seem to to recall that if you are both over 25 then no seminar required. You might want to check that thoroughly, though.

The Embassy should issue the document on the same day that you apply and pay for it.

If you plan to arrive on January 8th you will NOT be getting married seven days later as the Local Civil Registrar will not process the application for your licence until you hand over the Embassy-issued affirmation/affidavit. And if you're getting married on Cebu (island) and possibly elsewhere too, you will also need a Cenomar.
