This is how the completed Affidavit or Affirmation should look. it will be stamped with an official British Embassy seal then handed back to you.

Then you will be given a cover letter to show to the local civil registry.

    Ok
I am British and got married in Antipolo ( manila ) on Tuesday 14th July.
    Time line so was this.
Arrived manila Saturday evening the 27th of June, I had already booked an appointment with the British consulate in Manila for the signing of the affidavit for the Monday morning of the 29th of June, my fiancee had made enquiries at the offices in Antipolo, her local municipality.
Took along all that is required, plus a lot of other paperwork just in case.
You will need to provide proof of your home address, I had an electricity bill !
The following day we went with the affidavit to the municipal offices to apply for a marriage licence, paid the fee.
We were told that the license will be available on the 13th of July.
Next port of call was the mayors office to book a civil wedding.
First available date was the 14th of July, a group ceremony of some 20 couples !
For a private service with the mayor was a few weeks later.
On the 13th we went to collect the license which costs 2 pesos. .....
We were told that the mayors office was aware that the marriage licence was being issued that day and it would be passed on to them.
On the day itself there was 31 other couples getting married along with us.
    We were number 7.
I would recommend this for anyone on a tight budget and time scale, plus I found it great fun to be part of something quite unique.
The marriage contract from the local register will be available on the 23rd of July.
We have asked for a rapid issuance of the NSO marriage certificate, we will reiterate this and pay any fee for this service when we collect our contract next week.
    So far so good.
Hopefully this is of some help to anyone.

This is pretty much what we did. It took us about 2.5 weeks all in, including my flights.

So, if one is divorced, at what point is your proof of divorce asked for (assuming that it is) ?

If it isn't needed, then that will save me about 50 quid getting a copy of the final decree or whatever it's called.

It is definitely needed. I cannot remember if we had to show it at the embassy for the exchange to a local CNI ( but of course that has changed ) but it was definitely needed when we went to City Hall in Paranaque to set everything up. Thats the point of application for the marriage license.

I didnt bother getting a copy. I just left mine with my wife so she could include them in the Spouse visa application. I knew I could get a copy back home if they were lost.

I'm asking those who have gone through the process since the changes were made.

I just got married in May and while at the embassy getting the affirmation, someone in front of me was asked for his divorce papers.

Yes since the change, you will still need to show final decree of divorce.

I was married in the Philippines in May 2015. I didn't need to show a UK CNI document. As far as I remember, the steps involved were:
    1. Make appointment at British embassy online to obtain an affidavit / affirmation of marital status.
    2. (I flew to the Philippines to go to the embassy and apply for the marriage license)
    3. Turn up at the embassy with the fee and all the required documentation and a printed filled out copy (although not signed) of the affidavit or affirmation.
From memory I took a certified copy of my birth certificate, my divorce papers, my passport, the affidavit, a council tax bill for proof of address in the UK, the appointment letter from the embassy website, the fee in cash - but wise to check the requirements. The planned date and venue of the wedding has to be filled in on the addidavit in advance.
    4. I obtained a cover letter and the signed affidavit bearing a red wax seal and signature from the embassy.
    5. I took that document and my divorce papers, my birth certificate, philippine size passport photographs of me, and my wife's documents (including her CENOMAR, her birth certificate, passport photos for her and there may have been some other things - wise to check) to the town hall and applied for a marriage license. You have to wait about 3 weeks after that date before you can marry because the stuff has to be 'posted' I think. Again - check with the town hall.
I also obtained (in advance) a copy of a CENOMAR (for me) but they didn't really want to see it but I read that some places like to have it. I was able to order a CENOMAR for myself online and get it delivered to my fiancee in the Philippines with no bother.
    6. Some weeks later, the marriage license was ready.
    7. I flew back to the Philippines for the actual wedding. Took the license and all the other documents just in case back to the wedding. Signed the marriage documentation.
    8. Receive a temporary 'local' marriage certificate on the day, and got an official NSO copy about 3 weeks later.

    Hi,

how long did it take the embassy to give you these after the appointment? I have an appointment booked on September 22nd at 11.15am and wonder how long they issue the certificates on the day. If it takes until the end of the day then I'm better off booking a flight for the day after for Davao which is my final destination in the Philippines. If it's a quick process then I may be able to catch a flight on the same day to Davao and save money on another night in a hotel!

Hope to hear back from you, thanks :)

You get the certificate actually at the appointment. You walk in, wait your turn, say the oath, show the documents, sign the form and they give you the paperwork right there. The whole thing takes about 10 minutes.
