    Hi all

The wife and me are looking at going back to the Phils for a holiday sometime around June this year. We want to get some new furniture organised before we get there so there's more time relaxing and less time arguing in shops. Anyway does anyone konw of any furniture shops in Tacloban, ideally with a website? It's a long shot as Tacloban isn't known for being all that modern with fancy things such as department stores with webpages.

I am sorry I cannot help much as I never been to Leyte.

As the island isn't to far away from Cebu, I would consider visiting the furniture store on the basement of SM, and have some of the stuff shipped over.
I was quite impressed with the choice and quality of the wares on offer.

Stu, theres one big furniture store I think it's along Justice Romualdez Street, near the Sacred Heart College. Also theres a new department store at the Robinsons Mall in Marasbaras which sell furniture. Also along the main highway to Palo, theres some big roadside stores specialising in furniture, if I remember rightly, they are located near to Robinsons Mall.

Rob i think I know the store you're talking about, is it the one with electricals downstairs and a mass of furniture upstairs? If so we've shopped there before but the wife doesn't want to go there anymore as she thinks we get ripped off.

Didn't realise that they'd finished the robinson mall already!! How long did that take to construct?! Palo is to the south of tacloban isn't it?

    Hiya Stu,

The store you mentioned is Glenn Marketing, I have been there a few times, but we didn't buy anything big.

Robinsons was finished last year, and there are plans to build a hotel as well. U Tube has a video of it on opening day:

The Palo highway is due south from Tacloban.

Elsa says there are other furniture stores, RL in Magasay Boulevard, Tacloban Home Depot along the Pan-Philippine Highway AH-26 (or as I call it the Palo Road!) near St Therese & the new Bus station and probably a mile from Robinsons, there is also a big store called "RI" at 253 Real Street.

    Map of Robinsons/Palo Road:

Cheers for that mate, big help. Think we'll end up sorting it out when we go out there, I was hoping to buy furniture over the next few months and get it sent to our house in province but I don't think that'll happen now

Stu, there is nothing better than, actually pick the stuff by hand yourself, and not by looking at a catalogue online or having an argos experience....
I am sure that you already know to let your wife do all the haggling, and you ramain at a safe distance, as not to influence the prices upward because of your pale complexion....

In Phil it is a buyers market, I believe, and so it should be advantegeous to you to threaten to walk off to some other establishment...

So you name what you are prepared to pay, but leaving some leeway....

or put bluntly.... Do you want the business or not...?

But you know all this already... So I may be preaching to the converted....

Where's me walkin' stick... I am leaving the building....

Let me help you to the door!! No probs mate, you are indeed right that it is better to chose this stuff in person, problem is we'll probably only have 4 weeks in the phils and wanted to have furniture in place for our arrival. Still it shouldn't take too long I suppose.
