"Singer, current partner planning to have a baby

MANILA -- "Anak" hitmaker Freddie Aguilar openly admitted that he is in a relationship with a 16-year-old girl.

The 60-year-old singer made the confirmation early this week, shortly after he was given the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 5th Star Awards for Music.

"'Yung kasama ko, girlfriend... 'Yung [girlfriend ko, ano... 16 lang siya, eh," Aguilar was quoted as saying by entertainment news site Philippine Entertainment Portal in a report published Wednesday.

I wonder what the inheritance laws are in the Philippines and do pre-nuptial agreements exist?

Like what I say in all other forums that I am in, this is really disgusting. He's a cradle snatcher and she's a grave digger! He lives around the block from my parent's place and I'm really tempted to knock on his door and give him my piece.

Howerd, pre-nups do exist but still on the agreement of both parties and still not as common. Inheritance laws, I think are divided equally amongst the heirs (remaining spouse and children) if there is no will left by the spouse. If there is a will and a legitimate heir is excluded, it can be contested in court. I may be mistaken but the law prevails over the will should there be any contest.

Do you have a set figure in your mind of the cutoff point for acceptibility? :D

^ Well, I know 16 is the legal age in the UK but in the Philippines, it's 18. So he could have waited 2 more years if it is really love.

    That's what I was thinking when I saw "16".

This is so wrong. He admits he can't marry her because of her age - but they're planning on having a baby??!! And he's a serial offender because his last wife was only just 17 when they married - how did that happen when both parties must be 18 or above tyo be granted a license?

You can be very sure that if Aguilar were not Filipino, he most certainly would be prosecuted under the country's anti-paedophile laws. But he's Filipino and in show-biz so they give him an award. Truly disgusting.

Well now surely the police know where to find him and charge him? It's not as though he's kept in quiet. But as Mark says, its in the Philippines where laws are made to be broken.

Unfortunately, there is no law against him dating her. Statutory rape is only until 12 years old.

As a point of information a Paedophile is some one with an interest in pre-pubesent kids I doughbt a 16 year old would qualify and further even in the UK in this case no crime would be committed Consent age is cultural in Spain its 13 and its a very short time ago in our history that children could marry.(not that im suggesting this as a good thing)

Use of such emotive language and in this case rampant ageism says more about our own opinions and predudices than anything else, there is no moral high ground here:D

    "Paris:

    ...
But now, my lord, what say you to my suit?

    Capulet:

But saying o'er what I have said before:
    My child is yet a stranger in the world;
She hath not seen the change of fourteen years,
Let two more summers wither in their pride,
Ere we may think her ripe to be a bride.

    Paris:

Younger than she are happy mothers made.

    Capulet:

And too soon marr'd are those so early made..."

There are a lot worse things in life.

It has happened before and it will happen again.

It is fair to say that the Jimmy Saville business has made Britain a very different place where sex between older men and teenage girls is concerned. For several decades, people "turned ablind eye", and if anything was said at all, it would be that "She led him on..."

In the past few months this has changed completely, and several lawyers have been caught out by the sudden shift in public opinion.

    From Wiki:

    Philippines[edit]

The age of consent in the Philippines is complex. Interpol lists the age of consent of Philippines as 18.[55] However, the adult involved in perpetrating the lewd act cannot be prosecuted due to limitations in the law.[citation needed] Sex with a child under 12 is considered rape.[56]

However, for the purposes of child pornography, the country still adopts the international definition of a child in all its legislations, which is below 18 years old and although above eighteen, but with a mental capacity of a child below 18.[citation needed] According to Section 5 of the Republic Act N°7610, pictures taken of a lewd act by an adult in the locations mentioned in Section 6 of the Republic Act N°7610 of a child under 18, as well as the manager or owner of the establishment where the prostitution takes place can be prosecuted if the child has sex "due to the coercion or influence" from that adult or if the child is paid (see below).[citation needed]

Sexual intercourse with a person under the age of 12 is defined as rape:
Chapter ThreeRape"Article 266-A. Rape: When And How Committed. – Rape is committed: "1) By a man who shall have carnal knowledge of a woman under any of the following circumstances:
"a) Through force, threat, or intimidation; "b) When the offended party is deprived of reason or otherwise unconscious; "c) By means of fraudulent machination or grave abuse of authority; and "d) When the offended party is under twelve (12) years of age or is demented, even though none of the circumstances mentioned above be present.[57]

In regard to children under the age of 18, the law reads (as described earlier in the act as an individual under the age of 18):
Article III, Section 5. Child Prostitution and Other Sexual Abuse .Children, whether male or female, who for money, profit, or any other consideration or due to the coercion or influence of any adult, syndicate or group, indulge in sexual intercourse or lascivious conduct, are deemed to be children exploited in prostitution and other sexual abuse.[58]

I have a daughter and just hope that she will be sensible and listen to our advice as she grows older. What else can we do as parents?

IIRC the (anti-) human trafficking laws make it an offence to be alone with a minor (ie under 18 year old) who is not related by blood to at least the second degree of consanguinity. Also I'm pretty sure that there are offences under the Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act which could also be used in this case.

Did you mean Republic Act 10364? Or is this an international law that you are referring to?

I am pretty familiar with the provisions of the Anti-Violence Against Women law and there isn't really a clear cut law that will apply in their case.

It doesn't help that the girl willingly went into that relationship and her parents gave their nod. Not that I am accepting of this but I wish there is a law to prevent these things from happening.
