So if we're successful and we get the fiancee visa, can anyone tell me the following please -

https://www.gov.uk/becoming-a-british-citizen/if-your-spouse-is-a-british-citizen - Am I looking at the right thing here? This is what he will be getting later, after the FLR, right? So that means that from the end of the fiancee visa up until the ILR he can spend a maximum of 3 months per year out of the UK? Am I reading this right? We need to be sure of how much time he can spend back in the Philippines as he has an elderly father there.

Also, I've just been reading the FLR application form. It says that we'll need 6 items of correspondence addressed to us both at this address (from at least 3 different sources). So this is during the 6 months fiancee visa time? I find this weird - even English couples don't have things addressed to them both really, do they? I can't think of anything that will be addressed to us both in those 6 months never mind 3 different things?!

    Easy.

Both names on Council Tax paperwork.
    Both names on utility bills.

And / or joint bank account.

British Citizenship comes much later. My wife will be applying for that at the end of the year.

Your focus will be on FLR and after that ILR.

For your partner it will be:

    Fiancee visa
    FLR
    FLR
    ILR
    Citizenship if he wants it.

OK, so I need to sort out those joint name things during the fiancee visa time? I only saw that by mistake - I could easily have missed it :O There's too much to know!

And is it right that he can only be out of the UK for a maximum of 3 months per year? How long is that the case for?

I dont know about times out of the country. Not something we paid closecattention too. We just had 10 days in Portugal before ILR.

Just start building up a box of addressed docs as you go. You will be surprised how easy it is. But if you dont make a point of doing it then it can slip away from you. They like to see a spread over a period of time. Basically it is their way that the relationship is bona fide and that you are living as partners / man and wife under the same roof.

OK. But this is before we are man and wife? I saw it in the FLR application, so we need to do it during the first 6 months? The actual fiancee visa period?

I'm sure it doesn't all need to be joint. Some to you and some to him should do I would think.

They just need to see you are both at the same residence.

It doesnt. We also submitted some that were not joint. Such as our medical cards and letters from the Treasury (Tax) for example. So we sent a strong mix. We had more than enough after 2 years.

Is it only for the second FLR then, not the first?

Yeah they do seem quite clear about it. I'm just surprised that you need it for the first FLR, but it seems you do.

I am 5 minutes walk from our Immigration office. I will call in tomorrow and ask. Then it will be crystal clear.

That's handy! Thank you very much :) Maybe you could check about time out of the country too? I think it's 3 months per year on an FLR. Need to be sure on this though because of our elderly father situation. Bit cheeky of me to ask - hope you don't mind John.

I read how long you can be out of the country for, cant remember what it is (JA will find out I'm sure) but I remember thinking that its very generous, as in you can spend quite a long time away from the UK.

Hope you have a big bank balance to cover these trips :)

Well it's big enough I guess. But we need to know exactly where we stand. Don't want to mess anything up for the future.

To be honest Lisa you should just focus all your efforts on the Fiancee visa for now, once you have that then you will have a little respite from the visa scene and enjoy his company for a couple of months before diving back in so to speak :)

You know it makes sense

While I remember, did you settle on a visa agency?

Yes I know I'm thinking ahead but if we need the letters for the first FLR then we'll need to be thinking about it early. And tbh it's all constantly going round my head all the time so I might as well learn and read as much as I can. It's either that or think too much about how I'm missing him :(

Yep we've gone with Victoria Sharkey from Medivisas. She seems to be well recommended around the Internet.
