    Hello all,

Ok, so i got a flight and it took me nearly 12 hrs to do.

    Don't ask.

But my bank wouldn't clear my cash until spoke to me on phone. I had done all i needed too and then the screen froze whilst processing payment.

It was cause of my bank.

So i phoned bank and i was NOT happy with them at all for numerous reasons. Furious kinda covers it.

So after the call of course the bookings had timed out and had to re do both flights.

One from Aberdeen to Heathrow, and the Heathrow to Manila

And of course those flights in reverse for return journey i unfortunately will have to make.

So due to my back, my flight price went up approx £110.

I paid just over a grand.,

I must thank you all for your efforts to help me with this, it's quite impressive how much/advice/tips help you folks are happy to give.

I really am appreciative to all who gave time out your day to look up flights and type resposes to my question.

    Thankyou. :like:

And you might be thinking 12 hrs??? Yeah, and i'm dead serious. Well, maybe 11hrs. Bloody brutal.

So now i just gotta find a cheap ass hotel.

Or maybe i'll just take one of those flat pack type cardboard boxes.

I do have a few suggestions in my DM so i'll go look at those to refresh my old grey matter and see what i can vome up with.

Thanks most sincerely for trying to help me. Again.

Best deal I could find for October is 831 from Aberdeen is Liverpool to Amsterdam, then Guangzhou China then Manila between 22 and 24 hours put in Aberdeen as start airport and system defaulted to Liverpool as best option for flight, same journey home

I'm not sure I understand this way of planning a trip.
John, as the flights are the most expensive thing, I'd book those first then look for transport to get to the airport. ;)

Hehehe... you can do it anyway you like !

But if there's not many days on which the bus runs and catching the bus is going to save me a lot of money... I'd find the days the bus is available first and then look for flights on those days to match :D

Long time since I was at school but if I remember correctly it's called critical path analysis.

No way do I want to be sitting on a bus for 6 hours, sitting in departures for another 3 or 4, before getting on a plane for another 20+ .

I'll be looking for the nearest airport first...if from some far-flung outpost like Scotland.

It's probably more than six hours, it would be hell.

I totally agree who wants to sit on a bus then queue in departures try to find a somewhere to sit in Heathrow (a horrible airport :)) and then 2 flights of around 8 hours each cramped in economy with a nightmare transit in the middle east through one of several airports.

Emirates fly from Glasgow, Qatar fly from Edinburgh a quick check does not result in incredibly cheap flights but they are on a par with most routes now.

Think the op was looking for a cheaper option, and was saying he couldn't find anything under £890 - I had a quick look and found a bus and flight option for circa £480... approx 18:40hrs on the plane with 1 stop and 9:50hrs on the bus with free wifi, movies and UK tour of England!

    Resulting in savings of £410!

Of course if money is no object, then you are lucky and have choices, you can take the quickest and/or most comfortable route :like:

I understand John, I've tried to make savings in the past myself by trying to go via train.

It was just that he had ended up paying over £1000 and I'll bet there were combinations that were just around £1100 flying from Glasgow at the time he booked.

I have a lot of sympathy for him, if you're not a regular flyer it takes time to work through all the options available it's a learning experience and it's not easy.

My second ever flight to the Phils was arranged through an upmarket travel club/agency called Wexas and that to be honest was a stupid mistake on my part.

Getting the train to the airport is also largely a mistake for me, yes it's cheaper but it's stressful and there is a huge amount of walking involved, getting a taxi used to cost £45 for me to Manchester airport now after Covid it's £65 and I can't book the return in advance anymore so by the time I arrive back I look at the trains, sigh because I'm knackered and get into a black hack at Manchester that costs me £109 to get home but I'm home in 45 minutes.

If I ever buy a home back in Scotland it'll probably be in my home town of Paisley that way I will be a 10 minute taxi from Glasgow Airport.

A lot of selection of travel package is down to personal circumstances. I would now travel and have travelled from Manchester. If three of us where travelling I would have to look at Manchester versus. Heathrow cost savings on tickets (3) commute cost and time parking cost.
As I’ve got older cost is to me a lesser issue than convenience.

Flying from Edinburgh is very easy for me I was in PH Nov to Jan, I flew with Qatar Edinburgh to Cebu, £960 it cost me they have a promo on a Wednesday saving £60. Living in Fife I go to the Halbeath park and ride this being adjacent to Dunfermline, there you get FREE Car parking and the Bus runs to the airport every 30mins and takes an hour to get there even at busy times as so much of the journey is on Bus lanes, I believe Buses run from there to Inverness or Aberdeen? Seems to me like a very good option for anyone living north of Edinburgh?

Think Edinburgh can be thrown in for us to look at this Christmas as we plan to go over to the Philippines. Manchester 1st choice for ease but might be worth us (3) looking at Edinburgh costs as easier for us to get to than Heathrow.

Over the years I 've mainly flown in and out of Manchester, as there is/was the Transpennine Express rail service running from my home city in Yorkshire, right through into the airport. Into a lift, and you get out at the moving pavement leading to departures. Maybe a 90 minute trip on the train...and at quite a low price.

Most of the time these days the travelators at Manchester don't work, on my return last Friday I arrived at the new pier right at the end of it I think it's pier/gate A9 it's 520 metres from the start of T2 immigration desks and about 620 metres from the fast track desk which I tend to book these days, there are 2 travelators on the straight stretch once you get round the corner more often than not they are off and fenced off, on Friday thank god they were working, my backpack is 12kg because of my computers and cameras and I'm just not fit for this any more I think I have angina.

When I left on the 4th of February neither of these travelators was working luckily I wasn't leaving from the furthest gate, last time I got the train to the airport the travelators on the sky bridge weren't working, and on the 4th I stayed in the Holiday Inn the night before right next to T2 in order to cut down the walking distance.
