Joys passport expires next year in July, so we are going to need to get it renewed soonish. Anyway, I know a few of you guys have done this already and there are a couple of questions I have about the process.. We know the process can take a while, a few hours at the London Embassy followed by potentially a few months of waiting for the visa. However, my wife's passport (and visa) are in her maiden name, but everything here in the UK has used my surname. So if the new passport get the name updated, will this cause an issue with Joys spouse visa? The spouse visa runs until 2015, will this need to be updated as well? Or will the Philippine authorities sort this out?
We are in a similar position to you except my wifes passport expires in June 2014. And she has ILR already. One thing we have tried to do here in Britain, is use my wifes maiden name then simply added my surname at the end, which ought to help. On the ILR stamp, I believe it just sits in the old passport which my wife will continue to carry along with her new passport. Not sure if that is correct but its what we think will be the case.
I think they will give her a resident card now, rather than a stamp in the passport. That's what they did with my wife's FLR. We too have the same situation. We have passport, resident permit, national insurance in her maiden name and have wondered about this. I'm guessing it would be ok to update the name in the passport, then update the name on the visa as and when it is renewed. A marriage certificate is normally good enough as extra proof. As I say, though, I'm just guessing.
You can certainly use the existing visa in the old passport your marriage certificate is the linking document. In the Euro version some have a vignette in the passport but if you had asked for the docs back to travel it would have come on an a4 sheet of paper.
We plan to head down to London for a day out soon, get the embassy to start the process on getting a new passport, it'll stop us worrying about it come 2014.
