It took us two weeks. A friend of ours took only one day. And for many it has been in the region of 2 or 3 months. It just depends and there is no way of forecasting.

The UKBA do issue processing times:

    Settlement Visas
    10 days : 1%
    15 days : 1%
    40 days : 23%
    60 days : 91%
    90 days : 100%

These are for the Philippines in March 2013 and are working days so 23% were processed in 40 working days i.e. 8 weeks.

My wife applied for a Spouse Visa so we didn't have that problem. But it is a hurdle that many are concerned about. The solution, evidently, is to provide the UKBA with written proof of intent. I have seen quite a few exampes where quotes for rings, catering, hire of hall etc etc has been submitted with the Fiancee visa application. And any written proof you have ( email etc ) that you have entered into dialogue with registrars in the UK for a wedding ceremony booking.

Of course it's not actually possible to prove an intention, and likewise no concrete evidence is actually possible. Even receipts for a wedding dress and ring do not prove an intention.

UKBA don't say much about this but anyway for completeness here's what they do say - What evidence is required of marriage arrangements?

Yes, I agree it's not specific at all.
    In a way that's deliberate.
To be honest it's very closely connected to the relationship itself and if the caseworker & ECO believes it's genuine and subsisting
then they're highly likely to believe the relationship is genuine so they will usually believe that a marriage will actually take place.

Of itself, any kind booking at a Register Office or church is not proof that a marriage will take place.

However the ECO can reasonably expect that a genuine couple will have made some tentative plans for the wedding.
Any evidence at all, however small, that's available to show that wedding arrangements have been discussed / shared or are in hand will help in this respect.

Think about including any facebook messages, e-mails or texts that specifically refer to wedding plans:-

    - Where and when
    - Rings, dress, cake, catering, reception
    - Guests, invitations
    - Any quotations relating to wedding arrangements (just demonstrates that the couple have some intention)

Also try to establish a communication chain between you and the registry office inquiring about setting a wedding date.
Give them when you intend to get married and they will tell you that you both physically have to be there to set a date.
Reply back for instructions and info and they will email you back a price list and what you have to do. Could all be done by e-mail

Hope this gives some ideas for you.

This is what we have done.. We sent the email responses between my Fiance and the person from the Registry office..
We got the most important point

"Please call on 020XXXXXXXX when your fiancée has arrived in the UK. She will be required to do 9 days residency in the UK before either of you can give a notice of intent to marry and this has to be done by appointment.

We are unable to make any appointments until your fiancée is in the UK."

with the heading "Preliminary Correspondence with the Register Office in Harrow"

I'm new here btw and I'm still waiting for the approval of my Fiance visa. I applied last November 12th of this year.. It took us awhile to apply because of the traumatic experience we had with the courier, FedEx with my Fiance's important documents sent to other parts of Philippines! Geeesh! :erm: I know we could sue the company but we would just let "Karma" take its course.. anyway, I made the application :vhappy: and I'm hoping it will arrive sooner cos we plan to get marry in UK on January 11th of 2014 and here in Philippines on February 8th.. *fingers crossed* ;)
