Will the £38,700 threshold apply to them, or only to first-time visa applicants?

A Government spokesperson initially confirmed it would apply to visa extensions, but the Home Office has since said this has not been decided: “We are establishing the specifics of the policy, including how it will apply to those renewing visas, and will confirm more details in due course”. When the minimum income rule was first introduced in July 2012, people already here were exempt under “transitional arrangements”.

People applying for permanent residence (formally known as ‘settlement’ or ‘indefinite leave to remain’) after being on a spouse/partner visa are also required to meet the minimum income rule. The decision on whether to exempt people extending visas from the higher threshold is likely to cover those applying for permanent residence as well.

Well, as long as those in high positions in government and media in the country, along with the foreign billionaire property owners, have got their feet far enough under the table, and all their folks brought in, why would they care ?
