Stars from the world of comedy and entertainment have been paying tribute to Eric Sykes, who has died at the age of 89.

He enjoyed a career that spanned five decades and was still working on TV, film and on stage in his eighties.

For 20 years, his BBC TV series Sykes was one of the nation's most popular programmes.

    My personal tribute too.
He was one of my real comedy hero's right from when I was a kid.

In my opinion a comedy genius, a gentleman and always a gentle humour never needing to revert to anything approaching smut to make you laugh out loud.

If anyone has never watched his silent comedy The Plank, please do. It's an absolute gem, cleverly created and acted, and will make you laugh so much.

    RIP Eric Sykes

Only just heard about this (on here). It is very sad. When I was a kid I used to enjoy watching Eric Sykes with his 'sister' Hattie Jacques. I really thought they were brother and sister when I was a kid!

You can watch 'The Plank' on Youtube - also starring Tommy Cooper and Jimmy Edwards.
