The wife got a short message from sis in laws sister, they are all fine, house is badly damaged, no roof and mostly everything is a total loss inside, managed to get plastic sheets for the roof for temporary measure. Lot of work to be done but they are safe so that’s all that matters.

That photo just sums up the temperament of the Filipino people.
Smashed houses but showing lots of smiles.
My wife said "Camera there, we need to smile"

The BBC has suggested that 375 people have been killed https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-59714658
At least 375 people are now known to have died after a powerful storm struck the Philippines on Thursday, police say.

Super Typhoon Rai - with winds of about 195km/h (120mph) - sent some 400,000 people running for safety when it hit the country's south-eastern islands.

At least 500 people were injured and 56 others have been reported missing by local police.

Rescue teams have described scenes of "complete carnage".

But establishing the scale of the losses is difficult, as communication to a number of areas has been cut off.

There are fears widespread landslides and flooding may have claimed more lives.

"Many areas have no power, no communications, very little water," the chair of the Philippines Red Cross, Richard Gordon, told the BBC.

"There are some areas that look like it has been bombed worse than World War Two."

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies has launched an emergency appeal seeking 20 million Swiss francs (£16m; $22m) to fund long-term relief efforts.

"Red Cross emergency teams are reporting complete carnage in the coastal areas," Mr Gordon said. "Homes, hospitals, school and community buildings have been ripped to shreds."

Volunteers are on the scene giving out urgent help "for people who have lost everything", he said.

That is a grim, bleak summary
Let's hope it doesn't get much worse.

Live pictures from Stranded Truckers in Surigao, gives some idea of what its like to be stuck in the middle of a Typhoon, about 4 minutes in it gives a better idea of what its like.

Amazing and awe-inspiring video, thanks for posting, Heathen.

My wife informs me that I would be blown over very easily by the power of that wind.
I would still love to feel what the strong wind feels like.
The man in the video is not wearing a shirt which totally contradicts my British perception of a storm.
Both men appear to be so calm near their truck - they are so used to typhoons.

Being hit by flying objects must be one of the biggest concerns and it looks like you wouldn't even see what was coming until it hits.

The thought of children being hurt must be the most frightening thing.

    Hi All,

I was in Cebu, during the typhoon. All power etc is out. Our house was severely damaged, roof, etc. Our other family members lost everything. We are all safe that's all that matters. Cebu City is a right off. No hotels available and people are not smiling through it that I have seen, they are anxious and stressed in 5 hour ques for atm, water, etc. The electric as before will take months to restore in our place. It took 2 months after a fire. On a brighter note we escaped the mayhem and will pray for those who didn't.
