Very interesting story About how a small political party in the Netherlands has tabled a motion that has picked up support from across the board to outlaw religious animal slaughter.

Wonder how this would play out over here:erm:

Never liked the idea of ritual slaughter.

Hope it dose not stop killing of animals in the south-east Asia. It is the same way Jews-Muslims kill their meat.

Sharp knife cutting through the jugular, then all the blood escapes to the ground. Only the Filipinos keep the blood for culinary reasons.

I have some first hand experience of the animal slaughter process.
The company I was helping had different 'production lines' for Regular meat and for Halal meat.

The process of killing animals for human consumption is not something most of us would ever want to get involved with.
I seriously considered pulling out of that project.

To believe that the traditional western way is more humane than any other way is simply not in line with the things that I saw. Remember, we are talking about production lines here. It's about time and cost.

I saw animals go down, then get up, then go down again. Even 3 or 4 times before even appearing to have been slaughtered.

I concluded that there was not much to choose between production processes.
Working with these processes is just a job.
    Not everyone could that job.

My take on all of this is simple: The death of the animal is secondary - so long as it is quick. I would much rather know the animal had a good life for it's time here on earth. Not stuck in a shed, or a cage or whatever..

Personally, I eat halal food if I am eating in a halal food establishment. Though I know it is against the Sikh religion to eat an animal that is ritually slaughtered, so I think Halal and Kosher should not be promoted unless by Muslim business owners because otherwise we discriminate against one minority for another.
