Found on Facebook (an Upworthy post): http://www.upworthy.com/if-youve-ev...cued-from-sex-trafficking-watch-this-2?c=ufb1 The setting is Filipino. Anyone come across them?
No, I have not heard of them but they are a registered company limited by guarantee and a charity registered with the Charities Commission in the UK. Seems they also have a charity of the same name in the USA. The Charities Commission does not list Philippines as one of the countries they operate in but it is supported by Peter Bone MP who chairs the all-party committee on human trafficking. Very professional tug-at-the-heartstrings video but their accounts have not yet been submitted to either Companies House or the Charities Commission.
Thank you very much, Howerd. I felt a sense of unease about it - and you have very kindly done the work that I didn't do. Edited in the light of the private message which I have posted below:
I am not sure it is a wrong'un. There does not see to be anything adverse on the internet and it has been going since 2002in USA but new to UK. Many companies are frequently submitting accounts late to Companies House. Notwithstanding, I have an immediate aversion to charities with names that evoke emotion. One I came across a few years back was called SMILE. The guy operating that charity was running a fraudulent telecoms company that 'slammed' BT customers and that company claimed to donate money to SMILE! A charity run by him.
I have just received a private message on this subject. I am happy to say that I was mistaken and Howerd was quite right - they are "legit". I will post the message here shortly.
Here is the private message that I receieved; I am very happy to apologise to Love 146. Love146 Hi Methersgate, My name is Tim Waldron and I head up the Love146 team working in Europe. I spotted your thread about Love146: we're not perfect, but I can assure you that we're definitely not wrong uns! Love146 is an international non-profit organisation working to end child trafficking and exploitation. Nothing less. We've been doing this for 11 years now, through a US non-profit organisation (a registered 501(c)(3)) and latterly through a UK registered charity also (registered charity number 1144930). The reason that our European accounts have not yet been filed with the UK Charity Commission is that we recently incorporated having been original set up as a charitable trust - this meant that we were issued with a new registration number. Accounts for 2012/13 will be posted up on the Charity Commission website shortly; I'll gladly email you accounts for previous years. All of our US audited accounts, annual reports, impact reports and 990 forms can be downloaded from our website at: (address deleted - can be supplied on request) We are currently working to end child trafficking and exploitation through survivor care, prevention education and professional training programmes in the US, the UK, Greece, Moldova, Romania and Cambodia, but I'm sure that it is our work in the Philippines that will be of particular interest to you. There is plenty of information about this on our website at: http://www.love146.org/survivor-care/ If you'd like to find out more, please don't hesitate to ask. Best wishes, Tim Tim Waldron CEO, Love146 Europe tim@love146.org.uk
Tim Waldron from Love 146 signed up here as a member a few days ago............ They seem to be kosher.
Thanks for posting up my message to you Methersgate. I've now got posting priviledges, so I just wanted to say that if anyone wants to know anything more about Love146, who we are and what we do, please ask!
I am sure that it is a well worthy and honorable cause to pursue, but for me, organizations and charities demand the use of paid workers, big offices, overheads of all sorts. expenses, and whatnot. So in real terms for every pound donated only about 30%, if in luck and good wind in the sails, will find its way to its end destination, and maybe still not used to its full potential because of local interference. Quite a long time ago I stopped supporting Children in need, Comic relief, Oxfam and some others for various reasons of unethicality and hipocrisy coupled with investments made in wrong areas of commerce and financial backing of projects which had nothing to do with what the money was donated for originally.... That experience left me quite critical and suspicious... But I am digressing slightly....... For me, personally, the way we are raising funds to help someone in need is "direct" with no overheads to eat up the donations, is the right way to preceed. I admire and respect Tim for what he is doing, but unfortunately I reckon that he is a little bit overconfident and slighly naive in the whole approach to the horrible problem of people trafficking in general, and children is the worst of it. Traffickers do not understand the concept of fines or jail or both at the same time, they only understand death, and until a suitable deterrent is found to either stem the flow or disrupt it, because lets face it it cannot be stopped, the maximum penalty should apply to the guilty, after due process. In this case, China has my full admiration. Out of my chest now............My two piso worth.......
