Documents needed when flying to UK on fiance visa

My fiance/girlfriend/partner/bird (delete as applicable) is due to fly to the UK on Friday. She has her visa and CFO certification so everything is in order on that front.

Suddenly, with two days to go, she is panicking that she may need to show her birth certificate at the airport. She no longer has it as the CFO took it when she went to the seminar.

Does anyone know if she is likely to be asked for a birth certificate at the airport? A friend of hers says she will be asked questions by immigration there so she's gone into a bit of a paddy!

After a lot of anecdotal stories that I read about, I got my wife to carry all her key documents with her in her hand baggage, just in case, including copies of my key documents too. Having said that, my recollection is that she didn't have to call upon them. But I have heard the same as you. That on occasion Immigration, especially in the Philippines on the way out of Manila, can be problematic.

My wife has been in Britain for over a year and coincidentally she will be needing her birth certificate for something some time soon (can't recall what it is, but we were talking about it only last night).

It's a shame that your fiancee gave away her copy to the CFO.

Hopefully it will be ok. I brought my own documents back with me when I was over there at Christmas to make less for her to bring, so I hope she won't need them. It never occured to me that she might.

She says she can get a birth certificate tomorrow if she queues somewhere, so maybe it is best if she does. One would have thought that if she had the visa and certification then that would be proof enough.

Concerning the Birth Certificate, I strongly suggests she secure one.
She is just starting out on her immigration journey and such documents are often called for along the way.

I also believe that she should maintain her key documents in her hand luggage.
as mentioned, Philippine Immigration can often be 'difficult', without reference to relevent key documents, questioning can get stressful, especially when under time constraints.
Arrival to the UK may also be eased by having those documents at the ready.
I suggest Birth Certificate and any correspondence or reference from the Embassy or VFS at least.
Could be a good idea to contact details for her family in Philippines and also for you in UK.

Good luck and hope all goes smooth. I'm sure it will.

Maybe you already got this covered, but in connection with flight tickets some airlines check-in require evidence of the card details used for payment of that ticket. Perhaps you might contact the carrier for confirmation and be prepared to get a copy of that for you Fiance(e).

Just a thought, don't mean to panic you.

    Sounds Scottish to me :)

Actually it apparently has Scottish roots but also apparently some Graham's sneaked back to Scotland after reversing their name :D

There's also a Graham Maharg on MySpace, he's a musician.

Thanks for this. I've flown Cathay Pacific many times and never been asked for a credit card, but I checked the terms and conditions and they say it is needed.

I called the airline and they send me a credit card authorisation form, which I filled in, scanned and returned as instructed.

So that is covered now if needed. So thanks.

    Well done.
Some have been refused boarding on that issue.
