We are currently supporting a child who is a family member but is a second cousin as her family can't afford to provide for her, so we are financially and materially providing everything for her over in the Philippines. We are both British, I'm white British and my husband is half Filippino half white British. We both live in the uk and were both born here, I know there is an adults dependant visa, but she's 13 not 18. Does anyone know of a way we can bring her over here permanently without having to go thru a lengthy adoption. Because since the disaster over there it's made us think we want here here with us sooner as we don't want to loose her. Thank you.

I am not an expert, and I hope someone who is will be along soon, but, as you have already guessed, this is not going to be an easy one, unless you are both willing and able to send her to a private school here, in which case all difficulties will magically disappear like the morning dew.

Adoption is beset with difficulties as the UK and the Philippines "systems" are not compatible and the Uk does not recognise Filipino adoptions.

I think (but I hope someone knows better) that the only grounds for bringing her here other than a private education are if there are no living family members who can take care of her - mere poverty is not enough.

    Good luck.
