I remember the discussions a couple of years ago.

You beat me to it oss.
I set my recorder to get this one last night when I saw the trailer after I noticed the new series now showing.
Most are quite good, some a little unbelievable.

Yeah they got help to do a runner to Thailand and then help from the Brit Embassy there to get back to the UK I believe but I could be wrong, but I am sure all will be explained in the program, certainly they did escape from the Phils.

On another note everything has gone quiet regards news about Kevin and Charlene Taylor, as Kevin said to me in July and as my own lawyer confirmed late July, August and a bit of September were supposed to be "Inventory and Case Disposal" months for the Philippine court system where the Judges were supposed to work through the backlog of case decisions and clear the shelves, no new hearings (which would have been good news for Ana and me) but what actually happened was that the court staff "Inventoried" the case files and therefore these were unavailable to the Judges, so as my lawyer said and I quote "Thus, what really happened was that the judges had a two month paid vacation from work. " :)

    Only in the Philippines :erm:

Well, both myself and Carina watched a recording of this programme. I think at the end we both had some very mixed feelings.
One thing we shared was a knid of embarrassment at the way the Phillipines was portrayed in terms of it's laws, it's police,it's legal system and the British Embassy.
Yeah, I know we know some thing or even plenty of things, but this TV programme gave only one view.
Inside I felt empathy for both the guy and his g/f. I hope this wasn't just down to the producers.
I don't think he had any idea at all about the Philippines and I wouldn't have expected him to make detailed research other than the usual tourist stuff.

Didn't see any help from the British Embassy at all. Appears that they did everything themselves.
It really was a very very frightening experience for them and it was only money that helped them.

    Just my opinion.

:erm: Missed it. Set a reminder but was doing other things. Good news is it is also on Thursday, so this time I've set it to record so I won't miss it.

I was quite interested that some of the locations are such as the immigration control at NAIA and other bits of NAIA were all faked on the programme, I suppose that should have been obvious but one tends to forget that when watching "Banged Up Abroad".

None of the "Banged Up Abroad" programmes give a favourable interpretation of the countries where people get "banged up", it is always played from the perspective of a westerner and western ideas of fairness, so I was not surprised about that .

I am watching it again now as it is repeated, you are right it appears the Brit embassy did little or nothing, I did say my memory was a bit faulty, although I do suppose someone must have helped with the exit visa's for the baby? I though that was where the embassy was involved but I was trying to remember from a few years ago so I probably got it wrong.

The story was completely believable, it was this chaps story that informed me that adultery was illegal in the Phils, I had been there, back and forth, for three years at that point and knew nothing of this, the law applies to me as well, Ana's ex husband could claim adultery I suppose, even though he divorced her 15 years ago in Korea as they are still considered married in the Phils.

Not so sure he was any more gullible or lacking in foresight than anyone else would be, he didn't meet her originally in the Phils but online so no reason to expect him to do detailed research.

By the time all this happened the new embassy in Manila was open and part of the programme where the embassy basically disowns them echo's with my experience, the idea that his child could be considered to be the legal child of the husband is outrageous, they said the same to me when I was interviewed by Joanne Finnamore-Crorkin HM Consul at round about the same time, DNA evidence IS accepted and the Philippine law is irrelevant in regards to British law where this guy is claiming this is his kid.

Still watching, I was half asleep the first time :)

Much of the reconstruction was obviously filmed in Manila, there was a big bit of the story that appeared to be missing or at least very contracted, they had to disappear in, if memory serves me correctly, Las Pinas, for quite a while after the baby was born.

Just thought, I wonder if that airport they filmed was Terminal 3? it sure as hell was not NAIA.

Shocking! I am just glad they are both here in the UK and away from that nasty work of an ex husband. While I was watching it I couldn't help but think "what would I do?" and to be honest, I don't know..

Sad thing is, for the annulment you just know that t**t got a payday:frust:

Unfortunately, that's the way the cookie crumbles, overthere............:erm:

And it is always advisable, as westerners, to make ourselves aquainted with the local laws, customs, etc.....

I am very sorry for the hardships they went through, and lack of help from the consular Offices, which is inexcusable, really, and sincerely hope, that this episode will help others in not making the same mistake.
