Face, Filipinos just gotta have it, more important than truth, justice or the simple act of behaving like mature and responsible adult human beings :erm: :(

Sorry, I am having a bad day and my normally bright and optimistic outlook regards all things Philippine is somewhat jaded today.

By the way :welcome: Bob good to have you here, I had forgotten to welcome you :like:

I think 'saving face' is a trait of all human beings and probably primates in general. That is why I live with two cats!

Corina (whom Bob knows) is a small time agent in the movie industry and as you would expect she is extremely good at "smooching"; she "gives face" all the time. Her conversation is thick with "kuya"s and "ate"s. She can get practically anything done, by almost any bureaucrat, in very little time.

I was chatting today to her (and my) friend Elizabeth, whom Bob also knows, who works on superyachts in the Med. Elizabeth is quite the opposite; she will call a spade a bloody shovel, she drives like a bat out of hell, she expects things to be done efficiently and her collisions with Filipino, Greek, Italian and even French bureaucracy are the stuff of legend.

An explanation may be that Corina is the youngest in her family and Elizabeth is the oldest... both are definitely Filipina...and each admires the other...:erm:

Is your unasked question "who has more to fear from the Cybercrime Law, Elizabeth or Corina?"

Ah, yes, I can remember a case of the east trying to hustle the east. I was involved in the launch of the Legenda Hotel in Subic Bay. The Malaysian owners sent over a female Singaporean high-flying manager to make it happen. She was very disturbed when things didn't seem to be happening and we assured her that this was the Philippines and that everything would come together. She responded "That may be the way it's done elsewhere, but that's not how it's going to be here". By the time of the launch she was a nervous wreck and actually left the Philippines the day before the launch. The launch went off like clockwork.
