So the Singh route is about 4 grand cheaper.

I wonder what sort of job I could get if I quit my current one and moved to Ireland.

I reckon I wouldn't get within 5 grand less. So not neccesarily better. It depends on individual circumstances.

For most people its a non starter, too much upheaval upping sticks, a good route all the same for those not meeting the requirement, but if you don't meet the requirement you are less likely to have the money to move to Ireland in the first place I suppose.

Anyway Graham, they have lots of Tesco supermarkets in Ireland so you're better off staying here with us :)

Its clearly not for everyone but for folk alread abroad with no hope of returning with there family or youngsters with no chance to reach the requirements its a life line and only brings the Brit to the same level as every other European

What I like most about it is the fact that it is a available option open to all, and as you clearly point out, a very good option for some.

Also, even if I did get a job in Ireland that paid the same, I'd have to move away from my kids.

Not only would I then not see my kids but I'd have to pay about 4000 a year in child maintenance.

So it ain't cheaper for everyone, but it's good that at least there is some sort of alternative route for low paid workers such as Tesco staff!! :)

its only 3-4 months its not 12 months hard labour and your missus is with you from the start:)

I didn't want her there at the start. I wasn't even divorced!

3-4 months in Child Support. That would be over 1000 quid in child support still, which pays for the first visa.

I'm not overly enamoured with the current system I'm under, but for me it's a much better option for me than the other one that's available.

It does bug me that EU people can bring their wives here for nothing though, but it's just a principle thing rather than it being something I wish I had done.

If I'm paying for my wife to be here, so should they! Got no problem with them not having to meet the £18,600 though.

I agree, Graham, but why shouldn't EU migrants have to meet the financial requirement?

In a way I think they should, but at least it gives a chance to British people who can't meet it.
