Interesting Video... have to admit it's one of the big things on my mind... how long will it be before we're flooded again and how bad will it get?

I was wondering where it was... Vigan City Ilocos Sur - North West Luzon

    Very close tonight...

It's 01:18 am - high tide was 01:04am so we're saved for the moment - still got another 12 inches to go to get over the step I put across the doorway but close enough for us to get everything off the floor etc.

Worrying thing is the rain was heavy but not really heavy and it was only for an hour or so... yeeks!

    Good luck sir !

We have the same problem, the original parts of the house being on low-lying land, with a small creek next to us. Had it built higher than the surrounding ground, but it is/ was always a worrying time during the rains.
This led me to having a second storey built, with additional CR, laundry room, bedroom, sala, and kitchen. It's on 10 foot high columns.
Still more work to do on the exterior, but this is the current state of play. (We have 11 rooms in total).

Yup... way to go @PhilPensioner we need to do something similar.

Question of how much I can afford to spend - even though I don't really want to it might be more comfortable for us to put my eggs in the UK basket.

My worry is ... what's going to happen to all the surrounding infrastructure as the sea levels continue to rise and flooding becomes more frequent...

I can foresee a situation where the only one's left are the ones who rebuilt there houses on stilts like you - and a few of our neighbours have done recently... then you need a boat and a car or better one of those amphibious thingies! :D

The other thing is - as the sea levels continue to rise - what's going to happen to the tides - will they rise like 1.5m on top of the new level or what ?

Science isn't my strong subject but I presume if the water's ice the moon can't pull it about too much but once it's melted ???

And then there's the heat and rain - are we going to get more and more - not looking good.

Anyway - nice sunny day so far - everything drying out nicely - concrete does have it's uses I think!

I still live downstairs, but have 'water wings' in case of emergencies. :D

Oh, no way do I want to go back to the UK.

On fire at the moment anyway, innit ?

I take it your house is the white one in the background, if so very nice and the surroundings look very nice too!

One of my daughter's assignments just now is a critique of a paper by 11 researchers published in the USA on Climate Change, I read the abstract of the original paper and basically told her that it was going to be very very hard for her to find any negative critisism to make of the paper as basically I could see that everything they had published was completely correct within the bounds of statistical analysis.

She came back and asked me if a positive critique would be ok to which I replied yes of course it's perfectly ok to realise that in a paper that has 14 pages of refererences all written by experts in the field who have been doing quantitative research in the field for decade,s that your own opinion as a layperson on this kind of paper is irrelevant the best she could hope for is to be able to point out how the written arguments were overwhelmingly convincing.

She and her group have still to be graded on their critique but I read what her group had written and it was pretty good.

She's also got a year long project in quantitative analysis of a proposed product to protect a household's electronic goods in the event of flooding this is intended for poorer households in flood prone areas.

We ourselves here in Las Pinas are very prone to flooding we're probably only about 6 metres above sea level and the area does flood badly sometimes when the creek behind us overflows due to hide tide and runoff from the rest of Metro Manila.

Kids have been off school and Uni again for one day this week it was nearly two days all because of the weather.

It is sir...and thanks. Also yes, a nice location, with only one neighbour to one side of us...who are good friends to us. Only vegetation across the road and behind our house.:like:
