It's that time of year again - time to renew the insurance on my ickle Pug 107. Last year, we used AA Insurance, costing only £150 to cover myself and Elsa (Elsa is still a provisional licence holder btw), with 10 years No Claims bonus. Got renewal today, gone up to £280! A quick search with the jolly singing man website shows the same cover for £145. So my message to the present insurers....'I'm Out'. How can they justify nearly doubling the price?

Loyalty to the brand doesn't count for anything anymore.

I had to spend inordinate amounts of dosh in March, and stick with Asda, as I had a claim outstanding, and anybody else would charge me even more because of it.

now that I am clear of such incumbrance, i will be free to shop around again.

Before chopping your current insurer just phone them up and tell them that you've been quoted considerabily less and see what they can do. Maybe they can match or better your £145 quote.

Agree with Stu. Give it a try.

I am in an odd position because with a long no claims bonus with Norwich Union (as they then were) I got a company car...I don't know whether my "old" no claims bonus is frozen or whether I have to start again.

I did try haggling, but they didn't seem interested.

I was with Swiftcover for 3 years, each renewal time, the price went down by £10, but on the 3rd year it went up £120, despite no changes, no claims, nothing. It seems a strange science this car insurance business.

Well if you've tried and they're not budging best go with the cheapest then. I use an outfit called coverbox, they're pretty good for me in my line of work.

I get stitched up anyhow, as one of the conditions on my contract of work is to have the car Fully Comp insured..:erm:

Strange all the reports are saying insurance costs have been coming down this year, not by a lot but definitely in the downward direction.

Im with NUF also around £150 fullycomp I changed from the Co-op having been with them for ten years due to price hikes and year on year reduction in services , used to be the coop agent would call round to were ever you were and write the cover note , that went 9 years ago then they started charging a tenner for any change then no any driver followed by only 28 days euro cover etc etc

NUF mean i deal with real people in an office and my premium is reducing .
